I'd heard whispers of Pale Waves over the past few years and never jumped in. 'Unwanted' is a stars off as a mixed bag but really grows on you. I initially wished that "Lies" had a powerful Pop Punk chorus from the get go, instead it builds over time, it's grown on me. The title track brings a very Avril Lavigne sound which suits the band perfectly. "The Hard Way" starts off beautifully and rightfully builds to a proper Pop Punk payoff. "Jealousy" has a PERFECT ... read more

'Too Much to Ask' is an eclectic Indie Rock/Post-Punk/Pop Rock concoction and it's fun in both its musicality and delivery. The spoken word lyrics are a lovely touch and the sung vocals in the choruses bring a bigger sound to the record. "I Feel So Weird!" correctly describes the track as the chorus is juxtaposed with the synths, bells and vocals becoming jarring, but it's strangely pleasant. I feel like I'm in another dimension when listening to this album, it's graceful with the synths and raw with the vocals. All of it mashes together for a very pleasing and often guttural experience. It's very much in the vein of 'black midi' in that the progression of the tracks and the album as a whole is magical. The energy is there immediately and it doesn't give up throwing more your way. That being said, I did enjoy this record, but there's other albums like this that I'd prefer to go for, ... read more

The backing tracks are a little repetitive and lackluster, making the album feel like it's being carried by the plethora of featured artists, of which there are *checks notes* TWENTY THREE?! Crikey, Mr. Harris. It feels like background music for a house party, which I suppose is fine? There's nothing really memorable about it though.

Three EPs. Three EPs in a row and Hot Milk have absolutely smashed them ALL. They bring the angst with the combo of vocals from Han & Jim, not to mention the addition of Tom & Harry. How they've managed to come THIS far while not releasing an album is a testament to how strong this foursome is. "Bad Influence" is a god damn banger. There's some tracks that I much prefer over others and there are some downsides to the EP, but it's a bloody good punt. I can't wait to hear what ... read more

25 year old music producer & vinyl enthusiast with an eclectic taste. I'm not a critic, I'm merely a fan of music who shares his thoughts on auditory juice.

I may talk praise about an album and give it a 60-70, that just means I probably won't have it on heavy repeat.
