I feel like this album is a proof of concept more than anything. That is not a bad thing at all. Like, they prove that this sound can work and work great!
However, this still feels like its just the start of this project. And what a great start. But this just feels like its "just" an experiment, or maybe even a flex from the band. Like," Look what we can do. Isnt it cool? Just wait for what is coming tho!!".

Im so mad that i didnt love this. Gorillaz is one of my all time favorites, so it hurts that this was kinda meh. The album does have its highlights. Skinny ape is great and is 100% the standout track. Gorillaz tried to do plastic beach about Hollywood, and while i like the lyrical maturity and meditative nature, the instrumentals on this album are just underwhelming. Again, except for something like skinny ape. None of these songs are in the top 15 best of Gorillaz.
Its scary how well the lyrics describe the 2020s despite it being released in 2016.
I fucking love Western Union. I swear that song has crack in it. Didnt care much for the rest of the record but that might change.
Gospel for a new century makes me want to dress in a huge dress while dancing an avant garde dance next to a lover.
A Great Design Slaps!!! But after that track, the project looses its momentum (sadly).

Very interesting blend of jazz, metal and noise rock. Very creative. I love the atmosphere and how you are just drawn in by the soundscapes. The cover art ugly as fuck tho.
Is it revolutionary? Yes!
Is it a bit boring? Also yes.
I like the cold atmosphere and the overall robotic feel of this, but this doesnt do much for me musically. Artisticly tho, i do find its simplicity and creativity inspiring.
"oooh its good but uuuuuh i cant stand the mix the mix sucks 🤓🤓🤓". Yeah the mix fucking sucks. Every Beatles album has a shitty ass mix on streaming. Its terrible. But its still great. Gonna listen to the new mix because ive heard its really good.
K i listened to the 2022 mix and its much better. Deffo a grower album for me.
