While nothing can come close to the excellence of her "Cape God" LP, GWNF brings a unique sonic approach which is nothing to scoff at.
A much more sonically pleasing style from Ariana, but it still seems like she is yet to find her true calling.
Am I already a biased stan? Yes.
Does that make this album any worse? No.
Art.
Probably deserves a relisten but this album just isn't working for me.
What a fucking album.
Cut a few tracks and you seriously have one of the best rap albums of recent memory, and even with the bloat it still feels like a generational moment.
A mostly solid album drug down by a weak middle and my unexplainable hatred of 'get him back!'
How are you going to make an amazing spectacle of an album about how great life is and vow on self expression and be a terf LMFAO
A stunning Orchestral Americana turn from Mitski's original style. Personally, I found this album a refreshing return to form after the poppier experiments on Laurel Hell (which I still enjoyed, just less). The layering of guitars and brooding synths creates an atmosphere radiating of a winter's day in a way that allows her visceral emotion to transport you straight into her world. My only gripes seem to come from the mixing on her vocals (in the same vein as Laurel Hell) and a few clunky ... read more
This album actually blew me away? Sure it’s not the most interesting or unique, but her chord progressions and choruses are so strong it’s like she has it down to science.
Edit: 89-85 it could stand to have a few more heavy hitters outside of 'Home To Another One'
As a massive Tinashe fan, part of me feels like this album falls a bit short of what we could have seen from her. 7 tracks is a bold choice that I would be more open to if they felt more varied, but nearly every song uses the same garage percussion that blends unique tracks together into an odd mishmash. I would be interested to see what she could do with this sound in future releases, but as it stands I think it could have done with a little more time in the workshop.
PS: I know this sounds ... read more
I’m actually disturbed that Addison Rae just released some of the best pop music I’ve heard in a while. I got it bad could enter ‘Into You’ status of synthpop classic with a little promotion
I think the quality of the music was purposely meh so people could give it this score
I see why so many people see Midnights and scoff, but I actually see it as a solid piece of work that holds its own in Taylor's discography. While it is obviously littered with flaws (Snow On The Beach reeks of The Sims, Question feels like a nursery rhyme, and Vigilante Shit is simply embarrassing), the highlights on Midnights are some of the stronger pop moments I've heard recently. Even when Taylor's lyricism falls into a corner or corny puns, she works her way into some of the catchiest ... read more
Kali Uchis' "Isolation" is a true novelty, because who else can make an incredible album that you entirely forget after each listen?
The regular album is a 90, but the vault tracks & deluxe take a dip in quality dragging down the final score.
