Death Grips - The Money Store

Jesus, what an unrelenting beast of an album. This is one of my favorite albums to listen to while I go on my early morning runs and while I certainly don't recommend starting your day with frantic experimental hip hop, I've gotta admit it really gets my blood pumping.

It's easy to call a Death Grips record frantic or disturbing or dark but what I admire most about this album is it manages to string those ideas together into a (relatively) standard pop structure. The songs sound like ordinary hip hop songs made by a maniac and juiced up with steroids and the result is not complete chaos but something a little more disturbing. The result is a deranged, maniacal MC Ride prancing around beats that are really fucking catchy. I find myself enjoying these songs and singing along to them (almost) as if they're pop songs I'd hear on the radio. I'm not sure if that means there's something deeply wrong with me but that's the way I feel about this album.
