Stephen Malkmus - Groove Denied

Don't you hate it when your idols fall from grace? Fitting that the first track has "Faceplant" in the title, because it doesn't take Stephen long to perform one here. After putting in one of his best works in ages last year, I was really looking forward to this. Kudos for trying something different, but most of the electronica sounds clunky and cheap. The weakest collection of lyrics he has ever had as well, though 'Ocean of Revenge' tells a decent story. I cannot imagine anything is going to disappoint me more this year. I can't help but feel like a lot of this was intended as a joke. Groove denied indeed.

I haven't listened to Hope Downs yet, but Pavement is one of my favourite bands of all time so I had to double-check Stephen Malkmus actually recorded and released this heaping pile of garbage because I was so dumb-struck.

Sparkle Hard is the Malkmus album with the Jicks from last years. Both it and Hope Downs are MUCH better than this one though. Also a Pavement stan.
