2022, at least from my Australian point of view, seemed to feel like the first year of post-lockdown era. Though the pandemic itself persists, it seemed that the world was opening up once again; with air travel back to pre-pandemic levels, international acts resumed touring and played in full capacity venues again.
I turned 26 in the year 2022, and despite all this, it felt like an in-between year for me personally. Though I wasnβt as in tune with new releases as they came out, compared to previous years (due to my focus being more on personal matters like my job and social life), I had caught up recently and found that there was still lots to love in music this year.
2022 saw the return of big names in music like Kendrick Lamar, BeyoncΓ©, Lizzo and Harry Styles as well as new critical career heights for acts that have previously gone under my radar like Steve Lacy, Rosalia, JID, Big Thief and Alvvays. This was also a much stronger year for the local Australian music scene; artists such as Gang of Youths, Flume and Julia Jacklin made their return with outstanding singles, while relative newcomers like King Stingray, Sycco, Telenova and Teen Jesus & the Jean Teasers provided hits that could make them acts to look out for in the future.
These are my favourite songs from the year 2022 (as of December 29, 2022). I'm keeping this list to songs that have been added as singles on this site, to prevent specific artists from having too many entries, and because the singles are the tracks I listen to most anyway. Most of these have been singles released or are featured on albums released in the span from late-November 2021 to late-November 2022.
