clipping. - There Existed an Addiction to Blood

Daveed Diggs has always been an interesting character. A seemingly chill and carefree guy in public, but harboring some truly dark tendencies in his music. None has been more darker than this record. This is very close to horrorcore as Daveed explicitly speaks on brutal murders over clanking and grinding industrial beats. Nothing Is Safe, while a great song in it's own right, is more accessible than the rest of the record and almost serves as a warning. Nothing is safe on this record, it is going to meet a grisly end one way or another. Daveed's flows are razor sharp as ever, and there is some really clever wordplay. The music sets the tone, occasionally sounding like 80s slasher flick ambiance as opposed to beats. This is fantastic, but definitely not for the faint of heart. If you can't handle some brutality and blood in your hip hop this is not your record. If you can, strap yourself in because there's no better rap for the Halloween season. Highly recommended.
