Manson's latest outing finds him still on the creative pathways forged by his standout comeback album The Pale Emperor, however this one doesn't quite live up to its forebear with some distinct misses. Paint You With My Love being the most notable, a song that was almost a complete write-off until its ending which saved it slightly. However, on the other side of things, songs like Broken Needle show that there's plenty of gas left in his creative tank. The most immense takeaway from We Are Chaos, however, is that at age 51 Manson is still able to churn out a quality product where he continues to experiment with his sound. This is usually way beyond a metal artist's shelf life, especially one who was a controversial figure. Ozzy and Alice Cooper were both becoming caricatures by this point, but Manson is able to maintain a respectable sincerity. That in and of itself is worth a round of applause, and I'll be curious to see where he goes next.
