I have been thinking about writing this review for so long! Ever since "Rare to Wake" came out, I have been anxiously awaiting this album. I connected so deeply with that song at that time in my life, about to move across the country, I needed it. It became such an important song.

Geist is very serene, folky, and stripped down. It's like a long lullaby built around mantras that were probably excerpts from her personal journal. It wouldn't sound out of place on a playlist with Laura ... read more

A short review for a short EP: I am absolutely obsessed with "You Could Be" and liked the other tracks as well. This was a fun, urgent, and upbeat DJ set. The songs were reminiscent of 90s house music with inspiration from Daft Punk, Fatman Scooop, and C&C Music Factory. I loved the extended song times and look forward to future collaborations~

I walked away from my 1st listen without much to say, tbh. These are familiar sounds but maybe less interesting than Kacy's last release? I heard fewer hooks. Half of the tracks are quieter and fade into the background.

"Walking at Midnight" scratches the same itch as "Walking in Memphis" and was a highlight for me. "So Loud" sounds a bit like the 80s nostalgia, Blood Orange-sounding production that made me love her. Otherwise, we've got lullaby music. This ... read more

I appreciate Xenia Rubinos as a person - is that weird to say knowing so little about her?

Xenia is as creative as she is confusing, but in a way that I'm ok with as her listener. She keeps things interesting! It's going to take me at least 3 more listens before I understand a fraction of wtf is going on.. But it's cool bc I know Xenia isn't concerned with winning you over.

She's making bilingual records that are futuristic, avantgarde, and almost indigenous but in an outer space sort of ... read more

Well, I'm walking away slightly underwhelmed. Maybe I wasn't in the mood to listen today but this LP felt forgettable, especially the slower tracks. The opener failed to make an impression. I think the biggest disappointment is that I still don't feel like I know who sir Was is..?

sir Was mixes a delicate, chill 00s indie Kurt Vile sound with Scissor Sisters falsetto and James-Blake-y's quiet electronic productions, and some 70s funkiness. Highlights include "Before the Morning ... read more

Remi gets my mind in such a jumble. She makes music that's like carefree, sunny music for kids in the Bronx...? Like hip-hop for summer camp? Her music straddles playful singalongs and personal anecdotes.

She is maybe the most quintessentially "Gen Z" popstar in the game right now. Her aesthetic incorporates the camp glam of 00s YouTube (a la "shoes" by kelly) and MySpace. She also manages to channel SZA on the outro of "Volkiano". She gets it, she gets it ... read more
