'Elliott Smith' doesn't beg for your attention. It waits quietly, aside from any pop or rock of the 90s, waits for anyone who's willing to listen and hear its quiet, yet powerful message.
Might genuinely be the most overhated album of all time. I enjoy this more than Filth, and I actually think it's heavier. Your Property being rated as low as it is is astounding. Every song on here is brilliant, relentless and actually kinda catchy, featuring some songs which actually almost have hooks in them. Super Underrated. It's an amazing album. Fuck you all
Im so gassy and fat its coming out right now uugggh I'm farting and pooping everywhere uuuhgg
Interesting production, not-as interesting songwriting. Still pretty decent though.
As far as I'm concerned, this might be better than 'I'm wide awake, It's morning,. Both great albums, but this was really something special.
This album really can't be described in words. All I can say is that it is simultaneously the most fucked up piece of music I've ever heard, and the most beautiful and entrancing pieces of music ever. A deserved title of Masterpiece.
'I got a long way to go, I'm getting further away'
This is going to be an extremely personal review. Because to me, this album has many songs that have been with me through dark times and the songs hold bad memories for me, but all the while keeping me comforted, knowing that despite everything, Elliott's music has and always will be there for me. What an improvement from their debut man. Wow. Bass so damn groovy I'm considering calling this funk metal. This album SLAPS
Don't get me wrong, the playing on here is phenomenal, the shredding and the solos are insane and there's some gnarly bass riffs that take the lead here, but the progressions aren't done as nicely as on Opeth's other albums that I've heard. It sort of feels like they're throwing stuff at the wall and hoping it sticks, and there's no sort of flow between the sections of the songs. Still very good for a debut though.
This made me realise that I need to listen to more Opeth, because this and Blackwater Park are some of the most epic and consistent metal albums I've ever heard. The way these songs progress is so satisfying and the contrast between the heavy parts and the softer, melancholy parts is just so awesome.
Has some of his best songs ever, but also some of the lower ranking ones in his catalogue. Still a great album though, love the diversity between the tracks and there's a hint of noise rock in here too which I love. He experimented with a lot of new sounds on this one.
I can definitely see this growing on me with time but on first listen there was a lot to take in, and with some of the songs blending into each other it was hard to tell the songs apart from one another which overall made it a cool experience but a lot harder to recall at the end. But I am excited to revisit, which is definitely a good thing.
I've found myself liking more and more hip hop albums lately.
I liked it but it didn't really SPEAK to me until Roads, that song was fucking phenomenal. A few other songs were awesome too, Wandering Star and Glory Box being my other favourites. I applaud this album for being mysterious but somehow calm at the same time, it kept a sinister tone without feeling creepy or unnerving which I loved.
It's also quite obvious she's singing about some personal topics on here (unless it's from the perspective of a character) but either way I ... read more
I liked the noise and the layers but I don't fully get it yet, I liked what it was going for but to me the noise didn't really have a meaning to it. I will revisit this eventually but I don't see myself really replaying anything here. It is possible that I listened to it the wrong circumstances too, it would probably be a better album for laying in the dark at night rather than walking.
