not bad, but just boring. this sounds generic as hell...
missing moral panic
'i got your letter
hope you feel better than i do
i miss you...'
this album felt like the warm hug i needed during quarantine.
honestly, it might still be the warm hug that i need.
charming instrumentals, thorough production and impressive vocals.
the transition from the first half of the album to the second half is simply genius.
the way you can feel the mood taking a darker turn towards the end of 'emperor with an egg' right before hitting 'boys at school'... wow.
talking about 'boys at school', the drums kicking in right after the synths is literally one of the best things i've ever listened to.
storytelling at its most powerful state. this is a true masterpiece, sonically and lyrically.
'sun-bleached flies sitting in the windowsill
waiting for the day they escape
they talk all about their money and how their babies are always changing
while they're breathing in the poison of the paint'
vocals are heavenly and production perfectly encapsulates once again the world of ethel cain's story
hands down one of the best records of this century.
production: mesmerizing
writting: beautiful
vocals: wow
aesthetics: insane
thank you, lana
'be my once in a lifetime'
i understand that the song is meant for the videogame soundtrack, but it just seems like they were trying way too hard to make it sound like a james bond song. vocally she sounds great though!
can't wait for 'stove'
first verse was good and second verse was actually great. chorus and bridge didn't get me hooked at all though
vampire was a better lead single... let's see how this new era unravels
this album carried me through quarantine back in 2020. amazing memories attached to it!
love the dreamy production and how well-written this project is. also the album cover is so pretty! one of their best for sure.

seeing bravado live after brazilian fans put the song on itunes #1 changed me as a person
royals is a timeless classic, nothing else to add
i used to dislike million dollar bills and skip it as soon as it started playing. i absolutely love it nowadays. it's probably one of the most unique tracks on her discography.
the love club deserved to be huge!!! amazingly well-written, production is so satisfying and VOCALS!
biting down has a great production, i absolutely love the synths
amazing debut album. lyricism still amazes me and production likewise.
here is my day plan, here's my new machine
how is someone even able to write like this? INSANE lyricism, crazy production. this album will forever be a timeless masterpiece.
'when you saw the dead little bird you started crying, but you know the killer doesn't understand'
i love the contrast between her previous work and lover. reputation is almost entirely made of love songs about joe alwyn, while lover has more tracks with deeper and more meaningful backstories:
'i've got a hundred thrown-out speeches i almost said to you
[...] who could stay? you could stay (you)'
'desperate people find faith,
so now i pray to Jesus too'
regarding this album, we are going to pretend the opening track does not exist.
also, if you gave this album a ... read more
now this is how you make a pre-breakup album - without anyone truly understanding you're on the edge
"maroon" is pretty much the song that screams breakup and reminiscing over a relationship. my favorite from the album and probably from her entire discography.
'the rust that grew between telephones'
"sweet nothing" sounds like the last attempt of preserving a good memory from her relationship that was about to end. lyrically stunning, sonically ... read more
