"The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess" finds Chappell exploring her sexuality and being unapologetic about it, all while delivering some pop bangers!
This is what a debut album should do, give us an introduction about who are you and what is your sound, and that's what Chappell does in "The Rise and Fall...". From ear catching melodies to heart-wrenching songs like "Casual" this album has it all, and mostly it represents what Chappell has gone through the ... read more
*Screams in Caroline Polachek*
"Desire, I Want To Turn Into You" is an enchanting listening experience! From the greatest intro to the album -that feels like I'm watching a movie-, to the amazing harmonies and melodies that Caroline creates with really minimal but experimental production.
This avant-garde style of music is so unique to her and suited special for her voice that the entire project just flows completely, and you just can't help but feel entranced by the whole thing

"Pang" shows off Caroline's voice in such a magnificent and beautiful way that you just can't help but feel it getting stuck in your head.
The production in this whole album feels so calm and minimal, helping Caroline's voice and harmonies carry all the work. The carrying of the story and feelings of love and how the emotions just hit you like a "Pang" is such a strong concept that's just elevated by everything that Caroline talk and does in the album.
"The Loveliest Time" is a second helping of her previous album, and this time it sounds more calm and focused at delivering it.
While "The Loneliest Time" explored a more campy and funky sound that accompanied a reflection process of being okay to be alone, "The Loveliest Time" switches the theme to being finally ready to search for love and with that the sound feels like a sister to the one on TLT (A) but more refined.
"The Loneliest Time" finds Carly diversifying her sounds and relying on a repertoire of synths, funky basses and at times voice distortion elements. At times this album feels disconnected in terms of the track list order, and at times it becomes its worst enemy.
The best part of this whole album is the deep reflection that Carly creates about herself in this narrative, and we can see that in the examples of "Bends" "Bad Things Twice", "Beach House" and ... read more
"Dedicated Side B" is a continuation of the same concept of love that Carly explores in "Dedicated", and it's just as good. Carly is a masterful genius to have the same track twice in an album, but making both sound completely different to represent the way feeling can be a double edge sword. Beautiful album that sonically continues this funk/disco work!
I don't think she's capable to make a bad body of work (excluding her debut album, of course)
"Dedicated" is a second dose of " E•MO•TION", but now in a more minimalistic, funky, disco way. Yeah, Carly had big expectations for this album and while it's not as perfect as "E•MO•TION", she still manages to create a brilliant and well crafted album!
The theme of the album is kinda similar to her past one -falling in love and experiencing what come with that feeling-, but this outlook feels more mature, her recognizing she is falling in ... read more
"E•MO•TION: Side B" is the synth pop bible of the 2010s. Carly manages to create more amazing synth-pop songs, and some of them are better than the original "Side A" tracks. Truly a masterpiece and a masterclass in making pop songs!
"E•MO•TION" is the most influential pop record of the 2010s!
The synth-pop/80s influenced sound made waves that I think we're still feeling in the 2020s. From the best 4 initial track run I've ever heard to some of the best deluxe tracks that honestly could've just made it into the album with no problem ! Maybe it's bc I'm a gay man and a pop music enthusiast, but the intro saxophone riff of "Run Away With Me" just awakens something so ... read more
"Kiss" is Carly stepping into a full dance-pop sound, and that's the best choice she could've made! Yeah, the electro-pop feels very much 2012 and kinda dated, but I can see the seeds this album planted so that she could become the powerhouse in pop she becomes!
"Tug of War" is as "Girl Next Door" as Carly could get. Most of the songs are acoustic, and that's not a bad choice, considering this album was made in 2008. This is as "humble beginnings" as a powerhouse in pop music could get.
"30" finds Adele at a more mature perspective in life. From experimenting with her sound to some of her most personal and deep lyricism we've had from her! She shows us how much life has changed her perspective in what she calls love, and accompanies it with a real soulful sound that's mostly carried by her own harmonies and a piano! Gorgeous!
I don't review "deluxe"'s versions of albums bc I honestly think that if they weren't on the original album track list, it was for a reason... This is the reason I'm talking about...
"Bleachers" is a big miss, and it shouldn't have been, considering this their self-titled album. From a weirdly arranged track list order, to the bulled back production on most of the songs, this album just doesn't hit like the old Bleachers albums did.
I can hear the old fun and playful Bleachers in songs like "Modern Girl" and "Tiny Moves" and their new mix of playfulness in "Call Me After Midnight", but most of this album is full of slow, ... read more
"Live at Electric Lady" made me like more some of the songs out of "Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night", except "Big Life". I don't know what he put in that song, but I hope he doesn't do it again, lol
"Take The Sadness Out of Saturday Night" is Jack's attempt at expanding Bleachers 80s inspired sound that he has clearly mastered, but in the end it just feels a little under-developed. The attempts at trying a more "Rock" inspired sound are appreciated, and the less synth heavy production feels fresh for bleachers, but something is just not clicking. Maybe it is the way the track list is arranged or the way Jack tries to pair his deeply reflective lyrics with really ... read more
"Gone Now" Is Jack Antonoff's best album under the Bleachers band. The most refined 80s sound he has accomplished, the most control and restraint he has shown over the synth-pop sound, the emotional turmoil and vulnerability shown in the lyrics that share his personal life and overall the most cohesive body of work he has ever accomplished for himself! His magnum opus!
P.S.: I love that Carly and Lorde are all over this album, bc this time period is where he made his best job as ... read more
"Strange Desire" is showing us what Jack Antonoff wants to accomplish with bleachers as a whole: pure 80s inspired nostalgic feeling music.
The album starts really strong with the first 6 tracks, from there the experimentation in the sound starts to slow down, and it starts to feel a little watered down... but still feels like a cohesive body of work!
"THE ALBUM" is really inconsistent with their sounds and production. I honestly don't care about lyrics and all that, bc I know this album is just supposed to be fun and dance-y, but at least make things catchy...
I honestly think BLACKPINK hit all they could hit in this album in "Lovesick Girls"
