Album Trade Week 5: @Rolymongone
This guy did NOT just rap "I'm like a fartin' armpit". No. Get me out.
So I don't like Kill Bill's voice. I've sugarcoated it in my past reviews of his stuff for these trades but I'm just gonna say it now, I think it's annoying. His beats are solid and his flow is usually great, his lyrics are usually pretty good but sometimes are pretty bad, and all of that comes together to be pretty solid, but his voice just ... read more

The vibes of this album are immediately interesting. The cover features a real life photo of a sunset, the roof of what looks like either a house of a small cabin just poking through on the side, and three people, all pen-drawn, sketched and overlayed on top, black and white. One is holding up a peace sign and smirking at the camera, and the other two, one around the other's shoulder, are walking off into the distance. This is honestly what the album ... read more
My second excursion into the discography of the acclaimed Quadeca, the 2024 Mixtape “SCRAPYARD” has been on my radar ever since I noticed that Fantano rated it higher than Vanisher, Horizon Scraper. That album is my fourth favorite album of all time, and I had high hopes for an album with similar acclaim. This album is much more rap-focused than Vanisher, which had hip-hop elements scattered throughout but they weren’t the focus, but this album is through and through a hip-hop ... read more

There before the grace of you go I"
Simon and Garfunkel's names echo endlessly around the chamber that is early Folk. They wrote one of the most iconic songs of all time, Sound of Silence, which has since been bastardized by such offenders as Disturbed and the Trolls movie. I'd never actually heard the entirety of the original, having grown up on the aforementioned Disturbed version, and yeah, this is leagues better. The titan that is the ... read more

Boards of Canada are a band I've wanted to sink my teeth into for a minute. I tried listening to "The Campfire Headphase" a while ago but wasn't really in the mood for it at the time, but now that I have to listen to this lest I get executed via firing squad I'm excited to give it a look. Now, this album is unsettling. It's like looking at a black and white photograph of a child who died young. At times it's catchy, ... read more
I bet George Orwell didn't see this one coming.
Prince and the Revolution's iconic album "Purple Rain" has been on my radar for a very long time. Now, I haven't listened to like, ANY 80s music, the only 80s stuff I've heard ever is some Talking Heads, Doolittle and a Phish album, plus THE RAINBOW GOBLINS, which doesn't really count, and this is certainly the most iconic 80s album I've ever heard. For example I've heard the opener "Let's ... read more

Listening to this off of recommendation, same friend who asked me to listen to Kinji's "Thunderhead". B.B. King is often considered to be among the kings of blues, and he certainly deserves that, his voice is very representative of the feel of blues in the late 60s, I've heard stuff like this floating around and his style compresses all of the quintessential bluesy bits into one fine piece of work in "Completely Well". This music is just so fun, it's happy, ... read more
In my all consuming search for more sick-ass asian music I stumbled upon Lamp's "For Lovers", a member of the "Shibuya-kei" genre, most notably including Fishmans in their early years. This album is very soft, the vocals, the instruments, everything has a nice cushion on it and it's silky, not bouncy, it slides around and swooshes nicely and comfortably. It's a very comfy album. It's fast at times and slow at others, the switching between upbeat bops and ... read more
BE THE BEST FUCKING HUMAN YOU CAN BE
Okay so I'm listening to this because I looked at the genres for this and said to myself: "What the fuck?" Folk Punk and Anti-Folk aren't exactly genres I've ever heard of once in my entire life so I simply had to check this thing out. The acoustics here are pretty country reminiscent, the vocals are sharp and emotional, they're raw and imperfect which is always great to see. This is basically angry folk, it's twisted and ... read more
This man came from Saturn on a mission for peace and served us this spectacular piece of bullshit. Now, I don't know what the hell is happening here, I really don't. It's free jazz that they kind of made up as they went, I think, at least judging off of "Conducted Improvisation" on the genre list, and it really feels like the progression of the music was felt out. A big disclaimer with this album is that you should by no means listen to it unless you are ready and ... read more

Uhh so I don't really know how to review this album. It is everything everywhere and there are lots of parts I didn't like and lots of parts I liked and I don't really know what to say. It's a lot. I don't like the synth vocals, I don't like "bacteriophage", but a lot of the production and instrumentation was cool and I enjoyed that. The best song is probably "the beacon", the vocal bits in that song I ... read more
"I'm busy looking at the darkness and saying 'Damn, there's some darkness over there.' "
Listening to this one directly off of recommendation from my dad, he considers it a perfect album so I decided to give it a try. This album feels like hip-hop in its purest, most diluted form and it's really fun, honestly. One of the biggest praises I can see for this album across all the reviews is how absolutely incredible the lyricism is and I have to agree, one of my ... read more
I'm finally getting around to Tyler, the Creator's "IGOR"! My only previous experience with this guy is his appearance on the fucking Illumination Grinch soundtrack where he absolutely cooked in his cover of the iconic Grinch theme so I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this. This album has a sort of grounded dreamlike feel, if that makes any sense, I know that's contradictory but it feels like the best way to describe the vibe of this thing. It's an ... read more
fuck me i don't care this shit rocks
why does this album have three hundred thousand reissues
i'm not listening to this i've heard it's shit
Listening to this EP off of recommendation and it lives up to the hype my friend put into it. It feels like it toes the line between genres, it dips into prog, it taps into metal, it dunks its heels into alt rock and it dances a jig with jazz. It's weaving in and out of what you'd come to expect from rock, the guitars are bleeding and sharp, the production is dreamy and yet intense, and the vocals are unique: the singer has a deep, mournful inflection to their vocals and it fits so ... read more
this is the greatest and best song in the world
one day I will listen to this album in its entirety. but I don't think I'm worthy yet.
