I think I finally figured out why this album isn't hitting for a lot of people. In an interview last year, Tyler talked about how their next album could go in one of two directions: 1 it could be a continuation of the blurryface/trench storyline, 2: it could be an "in-between" album where Tyler can just make songs that he thinks sound good. What it sounds like Tyler did is combine both of these ideas and not commit fully to one of them. This album has mixes of stuff that could just be ... read more
This album is a great one by all possible metrics. It's got great lyrics, great music, great moments, incredible use of instruments and melodies.
But I feel like as a definitive CONCLUSION to this whole dema storyline, it is NOT the end.
Clancy is an album that uses the character previously mentioned in Trench to dive into the protagonist of the story. It doesn't really advance the story in any meaningful way (we'll get to more on that in a second). I like this album as another addition to the ... read more
I was thinking about this yesterday. I've been a fan of this band for 8 years now, and somehow they've continued to make songs that not only still sound good to me despite my music taste evolving, but also continue to be relatable to me despite me growing.
And this one is no different.
I love how each of these new songs sound super different from each other and I'm really excited for what direction the album is gonna take considering this.
The lyrical content is super cool. It's something ... read more
It's gonna be a long time before I find another album that captivates me with every aspect of it as much as this album has. I listened to this album when it came out in December of 2022 and since then I've had it playing nonstop for almost a whole year and a half now.
The story being told in the album is so tragic and heartbreaking, but so real! There's a lot of different ways you can interpret it, but the one I usually think of when listening to the full album is this:

Wow okay this is amazing! I love the punk style of thsi song, sounds a lot like The Strokes which I love a lot. The melody, and how much the song changes up are the best parts of it for me.
Easily better than overcompensate.
Then.. I looked at the lyrics and oh my god I was hit by a train. This song is probably one of the most sad twenty one pilots songs in a long long time. This feels like a song that could be off of Regional At Best for the lyrics alone.
The way Tyler set up the scene of a ... read more
This song is great! It isn't a crazy slam dunk like Jumpsuit was for introducing a new album but I really really like it.
I think they kinda baited us with the incredible 10/10 intro to the song where they bring back the Bandito lyrics. That part is the best part of the song. The rest of the song is great but holy crap could you imagine Tyler started rapping over that initial beat, it would have gone SO HARD!
The lyrics are not anything too crazy, it's more of a continuation of the Trench lore ... read more
