If Civilisation I is a slice into the stone age and development of society, then Civilisation II is naturally a narrative progression - shifting us at lightspeed into the future where things aren’t so simple anymore, society and civilisation has grown, but what does that mean for the impending doom expanded on in the first EP? I’ve been waiting for this EP for a while, ever since Civilisation I dropped in late 2019 I’ve been hungry for more, and finally it seems like my ... read more

‘Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land’ is Welsh-Greek pop pioneer MARINA’s 5th album, and her 2nd under the name ‘MARINA’ after she dropped the name ‘Marina and the Diamonds’ before the release of her 4th album ‘Love + Fear’. Love + Fear was a sort of comeback album for MARINA, with a new name, new aesthetics and a new updated sound which… fell flat and ultimately left many fans (myself included) questioning where MARINA was going. However ... read more

'Venus Fly Trap' is VERY reminiscent of 'The Family Jewels' from the vocal harmonies and melodies to the piano work and overall tone of the song. A great single that gives me hope that this album will be great!

A surprise release from Poppy which serves as the soundtrack to NXT, which she's becoming increasingly involved in, and hey... it's pretty damn good.

'EAT' was previewed at the Grammy awards (despite performing directly after BTS lost and the ARMYs were spamming hate, she performed very well) and the studio version is just as exhilarating. It's like a messy grungy wreck of a song with some nice guitar work and a dark majestic section in the middle. It's short and doesn't overstay it's ... read more

'Charmpoint' contains great reworks of songs throughout DAOKO's discograhy and recontextualises them with glossier, higher quality production from the 'Thank You Blue' era. The original track 'Okay!' is a huge highlight and hidden gem in her entire discography and her cover of Shiina Ringo's 'Kabukichou no Joou' is also really cool with it's disco tinge which is way different to the original track. A nice EP that knows what it wants to do and executes it with ease and confidence.

'Pink Blood' is an amazing return to the R&B pop that Utada used to do on albums like 'First Love' and 'Distance' but with the electronic glimmer of 'Ultra Blue'. The recent singles that Utada has released are shaping up to make an incredible album.

The song itself is quite subdued mostly and relaxed. Utada's breathy layered vocals work with the percussion and synths in the back to build up a dreamy atmosphere. However the song becomes instantly more catchy when strong melodies and ... read more

Hey, nice reviews!
Here's a question. Since, I've seen YUKIKA get a lot of attention recently. & I see that you enjoyed the album quite a bit.
As somebody who usually doesn't like K-Pop at all, would it be a good place to start? Is it accessible to a total beginner to K-Pop?
