Coin Locker Kid's album Traumnovelle takes experimental Hip-Hop music to a unique & disturbing degree.
Going for a more avant-garde approach to the genre, everything sounds boundary pushing and ahead of its time for a 2012 release.
It's sonically chaotic & disturbing all at once, but always so compelling throughout. It leaves you just sitting there struggling to comprehend what's going on.
It leaves you with that feeling of being stuck in a dark corridor by yourself with all the doors & windows missing, leaving you to deal with your own fears.
CLK does an effective job at balancing between singing & rapping, creating a sense of descending into paranoia as each track develops more in terms of sound design.
Not often an album actually just leaves me struggling with something to say, but it's just one I'm left mystified by it, even after two listens. That's not to be taken as a bad thing, I really liked this record a lot. It's just the weird feeling it's left me.
Traumnovelle is a very intriguing piece of avant-garde Hip-Hop that takes you through an abstract experience that can't be explained, but has to be heard regardless.
