This might not be a surprise to say that this is my introduction to Parannoul's music. I was familiar with his name on sites like RYM, but never heard anything from him until now.
God, I've been missing out on underrated gems yet again!!!
What do I say? After the Magic is one hell of a 60min journey.
One that feels equally heartwarming and melancholic but also comes across like a journey of healing.
The production & mastering here is something special to hear. The shoegaze style with Electronic Rock elements that build up to plenty of emotional verses and powerful climaxes.
Every track masterfully builds tension until it all eventually explodes and all the emotions just come flowing through.
Now, given I don't understand what's being said here in terms of the lyrics since I don't understand Korean (and I heard this on Bandcamp so I didn't watch the livestream from last night), that doesn't mean I'm not able to feel every word being said; everything manages to hit you hard in the feels as it comes across like Parannoul is saying goodbye to past pain and starting anew.
I felt crushed by the end of this album as it just felt so melancholic, but at the same time it's just so touching and passionate to experience something like this.
How does After the Magic manage to effectively capture a seasonal feeling of leaving winter and looking forward to spring? It's so damn peaceful both musically and aesthetically in its artwork.
As a newcomer to Parannoul, I can say that I'm now a fan of his music and wanna return to this again and again!
Simultanteously heavy in emotions and tender in lyricism / delivery, 2023 is simply looking to be a great year for music, isn't it?
