Ho-Kago Tea Time - Ho-Kago Tea Time II
90
So K-On!, a popular anime series that started in 2009 and is beloved by many. It mainly focuses on the life of 4 (later 5) high school girls as they go through their daily lives while playing in their high school band named “Ho-kago Tea Time”. While overall I do find myself to enjoy the series, I also find it a bit overrated. However, I can totally understand why a lot of people went head over heels for K-On. I mean it’s about cute girls playing in a band, who could have ... read more

유키카 [YUKIKA] - Time/Lapse

After 2 years and a marriage, Queen Kika finally released a follow-up to “timeabout”. It’s a cover album of Korean and Japanese city pop songs from the 80s and 90s and you can definitely feel it here just from listening to the album. I’m not familiar with the original material so I can’t really compare the cover with it but regardless, I think this is an enjoyable city pop album. I do wish that she infuses some modern elements to these old city pops just like how ... read more
Bébe Yana - VROOM VROOM

She's taking a more atmospheric and moody path for this one and while it's not necessarily a bad thing, the lack of catchy hook and song progression is holding this track back substantially especially if you compare it to her other releases this year.
Isyana Sarasvati - LEXICON

Extremely captivating.

I don’t know what to expect coming to this album because all I know (or rather what I thought I know) about Isyana is that she's just another one of those mainstream pop artists that releases safe and harmless pop songs. This album slaps me in the face for thinking that way and tells me that she is definitely more than that.

LEXICON is very theatrical in its presentation which could get a bit too much on certain parts especially when it gets to the rock cuts of ... read more

Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh

My only expectation coming into this is "this is going to sound super YG and doesn't try to even innovate the YG GG sound they've been doing for the last decade" and they've met my expectation perfectly. While yes, it is not as grating as Blackpink on the production side (still quite flavorless tho), the songwriting is the same old and boring YG GG style songwriting that plagued the latter portion of BP's career. I have no idea how YG is still one of the top ... read more

Will check them out, thanks.

And yes, I love K-On (and a lot of Kyoani projects really). They have great music.

When it comes to Artists, the first to come to my mind would be Seiko Oomori. I don't think she'll be everyone's taste, but if you like Sheena Ringo, she is pretty close to her early music. I don't love all of her music, but pretty much every album of her has at least a few truly amazing songs. You never really know what to expect from her, which is part of the appeal.

And an underrated Japanese album this year would be CENT's "PER→CENT→AGE".

If you have any suggestions feel free to drop them.

Ah. That is also because there are still a lot of albums that I haven't added to my library yet. My account is still relatively new so I'm still busy adding albums that I have already listened to. Which is why there are days where I'm adding like 20 albums in a day, lol.

Hm, hard to answer. A lot of my knowledge about Japanese music, in general, still comes primarily from my anime days. So when it comes to rock, the usual suspects like Asian Kung Fu Generation I'm very familiar with. I probably know the names of all the notable rock bands and most likely heard a song or two of most of them, but I'm probably way more familiar with the pop side.

Hi Urayuli,

At 400 followers, I wanted to end a series of community lists that I've compiled this year as a trilogy. The last two community lists focused on song lyrics. Currently, I wanted to look more on production for the last one. With that being said, I wanted to ask you an important question: In your opinion, what is the best sounding/hardest hitting banger in the world? Your choice can be from any music genre you like.
