Trampled By Turtles - Life is Good on the Open Road
Jun 20, 2018
There was no guarantee that this new Trampled by Turtles album would exist; it’s been four years since “Wild Animals,” and frontman Dave Simonett’s side project Dead Man Winter’s strong 2017 album “Furnace” revealed some personal turmoil. But with “Life is Good on the Open Road,” you’d never know; Trampled by Turtles are at the top of their game. Inhabiting Americana as easily as bluegrass, Trampled by Turtles are the first band I’d recommend to someone who wants to get into bluegrass. They have a real way with introspective, intimate folk ballads and personal songwriting. However, this band is best known for super-fast bluegrass jams; here, Trampled by Turtles nail both types of songs, but what’s even more impressive is that the album is sequenced such that these disparate styles make perfect sense together. It all adds up to one of the stronger roots releases of the year.
