Trampled By Turtles - Palomino

A major watershed moment for Trampled by Turtles, “Palomino” saw the Minnesota bluegrass outfit catapult from best-kept local secret to roots/Americana A-listers, capitalizing on the strength of nearly a decade of hard work and momentum from the excellent “Duluth.” “Palomino” makes the most of this newfound success, and while it might not be the strongest Trampled by Turtles album song-for-song (I’d still give the nod to “Duluth”), it’s probably their best entry point. The album kicks off with “Wait So Long” and “Victory,” two of their most iconic songs, and demonstrates the band’s trademark versatility right off the bat. “Palomino” contains some of the most impassioned and most exciting performances of Trampled by Turtles’ career, sequencing the more tender moments perfectly in between the ragers. It’s a nearly perfect summation of what makes Trampled by Turtles one of the most essential bluegrass bands of our time.
