Lucy Dacus - Historian
Jun 20, 2018

Lucy Dacus’s strong but restrained debut “No Burden” was a slow burner, gradually gaining traction through word of mouth over the course of the couple of years, leading to a groundswell of hype for her sophomore album “Historian.” Luckily, “Historian” completely subverts the sophomore slump, instead seeing Dacus much more confident and ambitious in her singing and songwriting voice. Nobody is writing songs quite like Lucy Dacus right now, examining the “big questions” through a deeply intimate and personal lens. She now has the means to create soundscapes that match the arc of her stories, and is becoming quite the master of the rock build. “Night Shift” is the best song she has written yet, and the whole album confirms Dacus as one of the most exciting young voices in indie rock.
