bruh im crying rn, this is some south park parody type shit
I used to prefer this over Veteran... what the hell was I thinking?
(Still good, a bit overly edgy at times, but definitely boundary-pushing in some areas. 27 Club is a top 10 Peggy song imo)
I listened to it on release night, didn't like it, then listened to it again, liked it a bit more, listened again, a bit more, and so on. Needless to say, I like it now.
"Ain't it Funny" is one of the best experimental hip-hop songs ever, and so is every song here really. Huh.
Edit: (90 -> 92) This definitely grew on me during my most recent listen, and is rightfully going down as one of my favorite albums of 2023. My only note? I want more. Eager to see what McKinley Dixon does next.
Never heard of McKinley Dixon before this, but God I wish I had. While clocking in at a brisk 28 minutes, this album is void of any filler and wonderfully jazzy all the same.
I really enjoyed "The Impossible Kid" after being recommended it by Mr. Fantano himself, and so I decided to check out a bunch of other Aesop Rock stuff, both old and new. And just when I thought nothing could top my first impression, BAM! This album hit me like a ton of bricks. Aesop proves himself as one of the most consistent voices in the hip hop underground, both now and 20 years ago. There are some gems on this album, with Daylight being one of the best rap songs ever created. ... read more
Gotta be honest, I didn't expect this to be as good as it was, but damn, this little EP almost single-handedly spurred my interest in shoegaze, and while I listened to a fine sampling of the genre's most acclaimed works, I always come back to this EP for a casual listen or two. Eventually, I'll listen to more from these guys - even individually I wouldn't mind. But for now, I'll just keep coming back to this every now and then, reveling in how good "Melt a Bed" is.
One of the most underrated albums of all time in my eyes, which is saying a lot since it is quite positively received already. However, this album doesn't nearly get enough credit for the sheer storytelling and inventiveness at work here. While not every song is a toe-tapper, it makes the ones that are more satisfying, giving a reason to actually listen to the album in full aside from the story, which also happens to be extremely captivating. For anyone who values lyrics and narrative in ... read more
This is JPEGMAFIA's (edit: second) best project in my eyes, pulling out all the stops and providing a wonderfully uncompromising, excitingly wild ride of an experience. There isn't a single song I don't at least like, with many being some of the best pieces of experimental hip hop you're likely to find. It takes the catchiness and accessibility of AMHAC, and combines it with the off-the-wall ideas of Veteran, to create something that succeeds past both in my eyes.
This is my first review on this site after lurking for months now, and I wanted to make it a special one. I started to take music more seriously once I realized how much of it I had never experienced, primarily due to how reluctant my family was to experiment outside of their favorite genres. Because of this, I never listened to rap much as a kid. In fact, I never really liked music when I was younger - not that I hated it, mind you, but I would never seek music out and listen to a new album. ... read more
