"The Mid-ification of Black Sabbath" or something idk I'm not a video essayist or anything
Definitely didn't need to be 72 minutes long, but despite that setback, there's enough here to keep me interested through most of the somewhat monotonous moments. Still love Jerry's vocals all the same, and likewise for the playing, I was just hoping for more of a wow factor I guess. Nothing usurps the highs on "Boggy Depot" for me, even if this may be more consistent quality wise, but still it's a good listen and a no-brainer for Alice in Chains fans.
wow, great leak playlist guys! now release the album for real this time...
Truthfully, it's a melancholic feeling recognizing a bunch of previously leaked and unreleased songs on here and singing along, knowing that they'll still feel like leaks. It's the same problem I had with FD; Legends Never Die, I would say, felt like a proper sendoff to juice's memory, and as such, it feels like each song on there, even if a couple were well-known leaks before that record's ... read more
"It's a Whimsical Afterlife" kinda sounds like a cartoony fight cloud with shoegaze, hardcore noise, and angsty garage rock in the mix, as each element wars for the spotlight in a battle of hellrasing, destructive angst. The vocals, much like everything else in the mix, are completely blown out, as pounding roars from synthesizers blare down long hallways and fiercely clip into this harsh cascade, sometimes for several more minutes than may seem necessary.
Yeah, as many others ... read more
Goddamnit, I have a new discog to dive into... (not that I'm complaining, this shit bangs like a motherfucker, ho-leeey)
I'm a sucker for long songs here and there, but I'm not totally convinced that most of the songs here warranted their length, like why is "Breaks My Back" 7 minutes long, it didn't need all that
still a good time overall, those first three songs are immaculate, just wish it was paced better
that moment of silence on clapping seal π₯π₯π₯π₯π₯
Excellent start, shaky landing. I can't believe "Megalomania" kept my interest throughout the entire song, I was sure that it would get old but somehow it stayed engaging. The rest of the songs after that point seemingly lack the consistent hard-hitting quality of their earlier efforts, even if "The Writ" bangs for the most part. Still, I'd definitely call this underrated relative to their past outings, and one I'd still recommend, it's especially worth ... read more
Definitely has its high points (Sabbra Cadabra my beloved) but feels a bit off in some places, namely the more synth focused production on "Who Are You" sounding outdated in an off-putting kind of way, although that could change with time. Still a fun listen overall!
300 FOLLOWER SPECIAL: PONY EDITION
Hello all you wonderful people of the music reviewing website albumoftheyear, it is I, mr. Out of My Element here, once again listening to something that wildly exceeds my relatively narrow scope of interest. What's life without a little spice to vary things once again, and hoo boy, is this some insane shit right here. Tackling this project is rather difficult, especially when acknowledging my inexperience with Vylet Pony's previous work that I ... read more
And here we have contender for most "what the fuck" critic must hear oty, which features vocals from Kanye West after taking nitrous for the first time and bland bassy casio preset type beats. Buyer beware!
it's sad to see that people are gonna blame jw fans for being intolerant towards nicki's feature (which is partially true i guess) when in reality, what's wrong with this song has seldom to do with her and everything to do with the terrible production and the baity title.
shoutout monochromatic rap album covers, gotta be one of my favorite genders of 2024
this album fucking slaps, knew cordae had a classic in him and I wasn't disappointed.
New tracks add to already great album, more at 11
also Duke Deuce officially the most based rapper ever for that line
Before listening, I softly predicted that the singles gave us the taste of the best and worst moments of the record, and everything else would neatly fall between Two Faced and Over Each Other in terms of quality. Turns out, I was mostly right.
Here are my thoughts on the new songs:
Cut the Bridge - When reading some of the single reviews, a lot of people cited Emily's voice as exuding this false excitement and energy, which I personally didn't see in the 4 songs released (Over Each ... read more
mia nu metal arc
also the voice on "Girls Gone Wild" sounds like the guy from the angelic to the core who talks to the angels
It's evocative but doesn't cross over to total derivativeness for me. I literally have no idea what to expect from this album, I'm holding out hope for the remaining songs to be interesting and at least somewhat decent, but we'll just have to see.
