I went into this one expecting to not like it because every single person I know said this was a flop and a massive letdown compared to her other projects, and while I do miss the sound of SAWAYAMA, this is far from the generic radio slop so many people tried to convince me it was. Rina is still in her own lane when it comes to production and songwriting. This is perhaps her most emotionally charged album yet, with songs like Holy (Til You Let Me Go) and Send My Love To John are full of really ... read more
Okay, first 2025 project I'm reviewing! This album is just generally a lot of fun. I've never listened to Bad Bunny before, so I don't have any frame of reference on how this stacks up to his other albums, but on its own, it's just an energetic time. There's a lot of care put into it, but you can also tell he's messing around. He's making what he wants, and I can respect that. I did feel like it got sort of repetitive at times because of the low range in his ... read more
This is just one of those classic albums that you can't really find anything wrong with. It's not an amazing masterpiece but its an incredibly solid record that holds up even 55 years later. I don't really know what to say that hasn't already been said about this album, but yeah, it's a classic, and it deserves the respect it gets. It's insane how well it still translates to the modern day. Give it a shot -- you won't be disappointed.
(74 -> 82, I think a solid few tracks have grown on me but it still needs to be a lot longer on average, but next doechii drop will be peak)
I've heard a lot of hype about Doechii over the past month or so, and so I had to check her out. Prior to this, I'd heard "DENIAL IS A RIVER" and I thought it was fun. She had high energy, good flow, and a style that really reminded me of old Tyler, The Creator. So, when I got to this album, I can't say I wasn't a little ... read more
Normally I'm not that huge on distorted instruments. I find them to drag down great songs from their potential. But the energy that this album provides frankly fits it wonderfully. This entire album feels like, in the best way, a group of high school seniors performing at a local gig. It's so rough around the edges in its mixing that it becomes this cohesive sound. The entire album does really feel like one song, something that I'm surprised they were able to pull off. Every song ... read more
Almost a month of absence and I'm back on my bullshit, doing what I do best: glazing Kali Uchis. Red Moon in Venus feels like the culmination of all three of her past projects. It has this rawness in its writing that was prevalent in Por Vida, but it keeps the great production from Isolation, as well as the airy synthy vibe of Sin Miedo, along with its Latin influences. What you're left with is a vibe that feels like a mix of an ethereal sunset on the edge of the universe and the end ... read more
Maybe this is because I listened to Stankonia first, but I couldn't get into this one as much. It's still good, but it feels less put together than Stankonia. I do appreciate the rawness and the absolute lack of a filter they had from the start, especially in singles like Player's Ball, and the fact that they were able to make a solid project at 19 each is also surprising. But, like, I don't know, some of the choices here kind of dissuaded me. The moaning in Funky Ride hold ... read more
Lowkey forgot I listened to this. Pretty cute and quirky... pop? Synthfunk? Definitely Same realm as Tom Cardy, TWRP and Jazz Emu. Pretty cool EP but it grew off me
User score makes it sound a lot worse than it is. A decent EP that mixes somewhat overdone writing and cheesy production with very deep and personal tracks sprinkled in. It isn't bad, but it's nothing amazing either.
This has the exact same problems that I did with AM. It's nothing really of note. It's standard indie alt pop rock, but it doesn't do a lot. As an album, the tracks really seem to just blend in with one another both in themes, writing, sound, and vocals. I wanna say good things about it, but it's just so generic my brain is just coming up empty on all fronts.
This is just plain fun. K-pop isn't something I actively seek out, but I definitely wouldn't say I'm against either. This record is just a good time with surprisingly good writing (From what genius said, ik translations may be off), solid vocals from all members, and an overall grasp on what makes a pop song. The best aspect though has to be the instrumentals. Songs like Push & Pull and Moonlight are absolutely carried by the almost funk elements. It's not perfect, and ... read more
I couldn't really get into this one. From an objective standpoint, I can understand and appreciate its creativity, but something just felt off. It's creative and fun, but it didn't age well over the years. The quality is off, and the background elements can mesh together. Some songs also can get pretty repetitive with drawn out solos with not much else happening in the meanwhile. The voice and writing are good, and together they should all make a fine product, but it just came ... read more
This is probably going to be my longest review, because I have a lot of very conflicted feelings toward this album.
I know I'm not done with my LP discog dive yet, so I don't have the last 3 albums of context, but I still feel very conflicted.
When the lead vocalist of your band is tragically lost, it can be hard to move on. If LP wanted to continue, I feel like 7 years was a good time. But, still, this album doesn't feel like it was made in good faith.
First, Emily Armstrong on ... read more
I somehow never reviewed this when i first listened, but Content is a very weird album that really gives off the indie vibe. Nothing here is perfect, and that kind of adds to it. If you like human zoo, will wood and lemon demon, this is for you.
Okay, so, like, this isn't bad at all, but my god is it boring. This is the music that your uncle plays in the car when he's like "oh yeah I rock out hard". I want to reiterate that it's not bad, and the work here is objectively solid, but it just kinda bloends together because everything sounds the same, which is funny because there is a good range of stuff going on here. This is a 6/10 in the way that it's fine but I will probably never think of it again. If I ... read more
How did I not review this earlier? This was one of my first favorites. This is amazing lo-fi music. It doesn't feel tacky or anything, it just feels so fresh and calming, to where I genuinely enjoy just sitting down and listening and letting myself just soak in the sounds. I need to do a full listen of this again sometime soon.
I went into this one with low expectations, and I thought it was pretty okay. Then, I thought about it more. Was the only reason that I liked this because I expected worse? See, I'm kind of conflicted on this. it's definitely not mind-blowing in any aspect. His singing is okay. It has moments where it does feel pretty, but nothing is astounding, and it's kind of the same tone the whole time alone. It's also kind of going for this TikTok emo-ish pop-ish sing-rap with a half ... read more
I'm a bit conflicted on this. I feel like Something To Give Each Other has a more raw sound that works better with Troye Sivan's voice and style, and yet this is far and away the better project. I don't know why; I usually dislike this somewjhat overproduced musical sound that was prevalent in the late 2010s, but it just works great with his voice and singing. It didn't move me an insane amount, but when it got emotional, it actually made me kinda feel something. And when ... read more
This is one of those albums that you pretty much know before you even listen to it because your mom loves it and plays it in the car. My thoughts? Alanis Morissette is weird, but good.
Okay, she's not really my full thing. And most people will be put off by her. She's got this weird singing style that I can't describe, but you'll instantly pick up on it. Think if a Canadian accent is figthing its way out of your throat with every syllable. Sometimes it works in her favor, ... read more
