I don't get why the score here is so low??? It's nothing revolutionary, but it's fun indie pop music. Yeah, the singles are obviously the highest part, but even the filler tracks are cool. I was partial to Fruit Machine. I think they could come back and make a great album. This is a cute, fun debut album that doesn't accomplish to do anything big, but it also doesn't set out to do that, so can you really hate it that much?
Perfectly fine pop music, it's just okay-ish decent pop music. The synthpop is fine, the singing is fine, all of it just makes for a time where I know someone likes it, but I don't feel much for it. She has potential, but I need to see more first.
It's fine, it's whatever. This is extremely overplayed rap music. The entire time it just feels like he's just trying to capture something he can't reach. Whether it's acting tough, or writing things well, he's just kind of a mid artist. It does get kind of better near the end, but it's just kind of something you're waiting to finish and checking how many songs you have left the entire time through. Also, why the hell are Ozzy Osbourne and Travis Scott on ... read more
I mean, come on, it's a classic. You kind of have to give it props for existing, because like, this album did a lot. I think it's definitely not my favorite thing ever, but it's still good. There aren't any lows, and while it does kinda feel very stereotypical, it was also a product of its time, and it also holds momentum really well too.
This is like, perfectly fine pop to me. Nothing wrong about it to me, and some of the better post-covid synthpop. Still, besides the great title track, there's not a lot to write home about. She's got a nice voice, and some fun production, but I think I prefer Emotion more, if I'm being entirely honest. I do think she's right there, though, and she could seriously put out a great album if she masters her formula.
(THIS WAS WRITTEN BEFORE I LEARNED SHE WAS A RAPIST)
This album is so overhated. Is it really good or perfect? No, I don't really think so. I'm more so mixed on it. I can admire the concept of the rebirth of a vengeful spirit sorting through their problems, and occasionally you get a pretty good song, like EVIL or DEATH. But then there's also a lot of filler that either sounds similar to something else, muffled, or just kind of unrealized. Her voice also doesn't fit all of ... read more
(Edit: 95 -> 100, it just gets better on relisten)
This one absolutely swept me off of my feet. I went into this knowing that Rina had a niche-ish fanbase, and basically nothing else. So you can imagine my SHOCK when Dynasty started up, and then the momentum carried into the next track. She seriously has an insane voice, great writing, and amazing instrumentals. She's one of those artists that fits under anything: pop, rock, metal, or slower R&B-like songs? she can do them all and ... read more
See this is an example of a "perfectly fine" album for me. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this album, but on that note, there's also not a lot I feel strongly about here. There's a moment or two where I can admire that "hey that's pretty cool", but nothing that makes me feel really excited enough to add it to my playlist. It's perfectly servicable, and I can appreciate what it is for a debut album, but it's also playing it very safe.
This is the case study of how short albums can work. I went into this one not knowing anything about Lykke Li, or what her music was like, and I walked out completely blown away. This record is just literally magical. Her voice is so powerful and mystical, and the way the backing track of every song feels so windy and ethereal makes it feel like you're in a completely different dimension as you listen. The fact that this is only 9 songs and less than 33 minutes is incredible, because it ... read more
It's quirky silly, but is that really a crime? I say NO, because this is seriously a really creative record. It feels like each song is sort of a "oh we're going here now I guess?", but in a pleasant way. It really feels like she's doing what she wants, and as a result, not a lot of it feels rushed or really bad. I think it's just really solid, and I'm definitely gonna have to give TIHTM a shot.
Oh this is good folk. It's no secret I'm not huge on this genre, but Lizzy McAlpine's voice really feels magical enough to make the ideas she explores here work. I want to form more of an opinion, but I don't have much else to say; it's just really good for its genre, and I'd rec it for any fans of this genre.
Wait, what the fuck do you mean she was sixteen when she made this? This is great. Obviously, the big highlight is Ribs. It feels so gutting, even though I'm still young. Her great voice and lyrics seem to already be really solid even on her debut, and even though not every track hit with me, this album definitely crushed people when it first dropped.
Oh look at the fucking comedian we got up in here! This is one of those albums you can't even be that mad at because it's just so stupid. Jazz Emu has a cool voice that reminds me of a mix between TWRP and Jack Stauber, and the funky production makes it feel like a cheesy infomercial beginning to end. Still, though, it's hard for me to be a huge fan, because some decisions kind of turned me off, and I also felt as though it loses steam around the second half.
Yeah, Fiona Apple really does deserve praise. Usually, with most albums, I feel like the best ones are the ones that are really well-rounded in every category. Fiona Apple, though, is elevated up to this insane level immediately just because of her writing. Seriously, her writing is like poetry. Every line goes with the other perfectly, making every song feel a lot deeper. I can also appreciate albums that use the piano right, and Tidal understood the assignment. This isn't even mentioning ... read more
Once again, I have been mislead by one song into listening to the rest of the record, only to find it's not that good. Your Ex Said You Can't Dance is by far the best song on the entire album. It's fun, poppy, and energetic. The rest of it, though? It feels like a confused pop-rock record that really just spews the same stuff I've heard before. It was a big letdown to see that nothing else lived up to that one song. Not bad, but I kind of got bored midway through.
This wasn't exactly my thing, but it's still objectively solid. It feels like if Joji was more of a pop artist. I'm not the target audience for this, I don't think, but I did find some parts to be cool. The writing was cool, and the little details in the backing tracks of songs enhanced the experience for me. Pretty solid, but not something I'd come back to.
The theater kid voices are dragging me back into hell. real talk, though, this is a good theatrical pop-ish piano album. The big highlights for me are Jesus on the Telephone and Champagne, but the rest of it is pretty solid too. It's quirky, and certainly not for everyone, but I can see this record meaning a lot to somebody, and with how much passion and soul is behind it, I can see why.
This is really really good actually! This is just a really easy to listen to pop album. Granted, I can't speak much on the lyrics, seeing as how I don't speak Spanish, but the rest of the album- production, vocals, and flow- are genuinely really solid. This is an underrated gem, I'm a fan.
I really was not feeling this one, honestly. I think that short albums are an incredible risk. If it works, it works wonders and it gets right to the point, but at other points, it just feels like a lot of good ideas get rushed or sacrificed to reach a shorter attention span. The music isn't my thing, but the production just feels really overwhelming, like I can't tell what's going on because EVERYTHING is at 100. And when a song starts, it's almost immediately over, and ... read more
Come on man you've gotta give objective respect to some of the greatest artists from the 90s. Lauryn Hill is always an artist I've had on my radar of "I've gotta listen at some point", and safe to say, she did not disappoint. But she's only one part of this group. Pras Michael and Wyclef Jean are also really good, too, and their work shouldn't be discarded. This really feels like nothing I've heard before, and I think that's the special part of it. ... read more
