This album works for a lot of reasons that Isolation, one of my favorite albums ever, does. Amazing vocals put over unique beats, a lot of moments that stick with you, unique features, and overall, just being able to carry this specific vibe throughout the entire thing. Seriously, this thing is over an hour long, but a full listen-through doesn't even make that a problem. Everything transitions really prettily, and while it's not perfect, it doesn't have any low points either, ... read more
Now THIS is some good alternative pop shit. This is one of those albums that's really uplifted by its deluxe version. In the same vein as CMIYGL's Estate Sale, it almost feels like an encore/continuation of ideas to cover every base. This album had me guessing at every turn and corner, but in a good way. Not everything hit, but there was this level of objective quality that kept everything flowing. It's just overall really strong, and a must-listen alt pop record.
This is a pretty cheesy, but still pretty solid 80s synthpop album. Like, there are some really cool beats and ideas here, and the voice does work. The writing is pretty cheesy and uninspired, but it does kind of work in its favor. It's not pushing any boundaries, but it's serviceable for this genre, and I have to give it credit for being the debut project of one of the big synthpop artists. It's pretty solid, and even though it wasn't my favorite thing in the world, I ... read more
Damn. I really went into this one expecting to love it. I mean, I loved Pinkshift, and I love the kinda rebellious vibe of music of this type. So, I thought, why not go back to a classic riot grrrl album? Ignoring the god-awful Hillary Clinton promo song (I'm not a Republican, but my thought process goes like: where is the 'riot' in endorsing a billionaire?), I really expected this to be in the 80s at least, with songs like Deceptacon and Phanta. And... nothing else really lived ... read more
This one was honestly a wild ride, but I loved it so much. This album feels like it takes inspiration from so many other artists that it ends up becoming its own thing, yet sounding so familiar. It's like a groovy AI romance funk journey that sounds like Daft Punk, Tame Impala, and even a bit of Dawn FM. It's just such a trip because everything seems like it shouldn't work, or come out as corny. But where TWRP succeeds is that the cheesy energy is part of the charm, and really ... read more
This is an album that I'm not huge on, but I still appreciate. 100 gecs is one of the best hyperpop artists, because of how sheerly fucking unhinged this is. Chaos the entire time, unpredictable bullshit, and that's why it's good. This is best enjoyed when you treat it as one big song, and not 9 individual short songs. It's not my thing, but it's very creative and inventive.
This is what people think "Tiktok music" is. short, sub-3-minute songs that have half-baked ideas. Leah Kate has a nice voice, and the backing instrumentals are nice, but nothing feels polished. The writing is often cringy, making references to things that are 100% gonna be outdated in like 10 years, and when it's not that, it's just uninspired. It's trying to be this loud FUCK YOU anthem record, but I'd just listen to Pollyanna or Olivia Rodrigo instead. She has ... read more
This one really swept me away, honestly. Prior to this, I'd only heard Cure For Me, so near the start, I was kinda taken off guard by the different approach. But by the time of, like, the fourth song, I didn't even really care. The production on this album is seriously impressive. On top of AURORA's heavenly vocals, every song feels like she perfectly fits over it. Because of this, it's really a treat almost the entire time through, to where even the songs that didn't ... read more
This one was a pretty fun time, honestly! I was introduced to this album through Kingslayer, which, while I still think that's the best song on the album, there were some really cool highs to be found elsewhere too. 1x1, Teardrops, and Ludens were really standouts to me. The singer's voice is loud and aggressive, which works for the album's highs. There's also some pretty good writing to be seen here, that, while a bit overly angsty, I can't deny that it appeals to me. ... read more
This is one of those albums you've just gotta sit back after you're done and really absorb "damn. what did i just listen to?" And I don't mean that in a bad way at all. No, this was absolutely phenomenal. I had always been waiting for when I got around to listening to Outkast, and god damn this did not disappoint. This album also falls into "I don't know how to talk about it because it's so universally loved I would just be repeating talking points." ... read more
I don't really have a lot to say about this, except for the fact that I guess I'm just not a Red Hot Chili Peppers person. I mean, it wasn't bad but it's not my thing. I don't know, it's just something about it. Maybe the voice, maybe the lyrics, or maybe something else. Either way, I'm still kind of shocked I wasn't into this. I mean, I love funk and rock. Why don't I like funk rock?? I don't really want to look into it. I'm sure this is ... read more
I forgot I listened to this ngl, but it was pretty cool. Not exactly my kind of music, but I could really enjoy the backing instruments and the fun writing.
This is one of those albums where it feels objectively and morally wrong to give it anything other than a 100. Seriously, what even is there to say about something that's on every all-time best album list, and everyone pretty much knows how amazing it is? Marvin Gaye has an incredible voice, first off. Seriously, it feels like your body is melting, and his voice is going directly to your brain. Next, there's the background music. It almost feels like it was written as it went along, ... read more
He could make a good album if he grew the fuck up. Seriously, there are good ideas here, but they just kinda come off as half-baked if anything. I don't really have a lot to say, except I don't want to listen to another one of these lowkey.
Of all of the Depeche Mode albums I've listened to so far, this one feels the most complete. Like, this one can stand its ground as its own thing the most compared to everything else. It's pretty solid! There are a couple of dull spots, but there are also a few great songs too, especially Ghosts Again. Everything flows pretty well, and it all feels like the same project. Honestly, I'm surprised. Usually, recent releases from older bands end up being underwhelming, but this is ... read more
This one was actually solid! I wasn't sure what to think, since like everyone, I really only knew Call Me Maybe, so I was pleasantly surprised to find a unique and decently fun pop album. I don't think it's the revolutionary hidden gem that everyone thinks it is, but it doesn't have any weak points, aside from a kind of weak opening. Maybe I'm not the target audience, but I really enjoyed All That and Your Type. It's a decently fun time, and a pretty decent ... read more
Jesus He Knows Me's cover fucks and there's also a fun Phantom Of The Opera cover here. The others are just kind of whatever, but it's still a solid time.
OH MY FUCKING GOD OVERRATED. both of these songs are good but PLEASE stop hyping up Mary on a cross I FUCKING BEG YOU. Not even that into Ghost but stan Mummy Dust instead. This has a really unique sound compared to anything else they've made, and I'd probably be down for a full album of this sound.
