It's funny, some of my favorite bands have so much Paramore inspiration, and I've never heard an album of theirs before this. It probably wasn't a good idea to start with their newest one, but looking at this alone, I had a really fun time with this! Great vocals, fun instrumentation, and a really good range of songs, from slow, reflective songs to upbeat, angsty songs. The writing, while a bit on-the-nose, is still relatable, and keeps a consistent theme throughout the album. ... read more
This one was weird. On the side of positives, it had really good instrumentation. The backing tracks are easily the best part of every song. The rest? It's... a bit iffy. I feel like a lot of the ideas were executed decently, but not nearly to their full potential. It was just... okay, I mean. Like, it wasn't bad, but there were times I just kinda wanted to get on to the next track. I appreciate the quirky, zany vibe that they're trying to go for, but it just didn't work out ... read more
I was listening to this like "This sounds like mid-2020 quarantine music", and then I checked the release date, and everything made sense.
This album was a decently fun time. In positives, I like how it sounds. It sounds so clean and futuristic, but still like it sounds like something I've heard before. The vocalist also has a pretty good range too, and when she gets to fully use it, it makes for a memorable track. I also love how this is the synthpop that's heavy on bass, ... read more
Overall, while I don't think this is as good as Isolation, this is still a really good sophomore album from Kali. It's fun, really pretty, and has this amazing Latin pop energy the entire time that really feels fresh, especially since it's mixed with her normal R&B/synths sound. It's a great time, and a lot of the pros from isolation are still there. Her voice, her writing, the uniqueness, it's still a great time.
Made a massive mistake listening to this at 2am because I'm trying not to fall asleep so damn hard. No but this is a solid debut album from Hozier. This kind of alt-folk music isn't really my thing, but Hozier's voice is objectively really good, which does drive this album up a bit for me. But it still doesn't leave a lot of an impact on me. Save for the first two songs and In A Week, I couldn't call a single thing from the vast majority of these songs if I tried. ... read more
FINALLY I'M DONE CATCHING UP WITH EVERYTHING I'VE HEARD! Now I can finally listen to new music.
ZABA is one of those albums that always surprises me whenever I revisit it. I always go in thinking, "maybe I overrated it. Maybe it's not that good." But nah. It may not be particularly memorable, but truth is, this is a really unique and fun vibe. It feels new and exotic, like you're walking through an LSD jungle while this plays on an iPod. The voice, the distant ... read more
A pretty fun electropop album. It's not all perfect, but it's a pretty fun time. I see why Benson from Regular Show listens to this genre on long car rides. Kylie's voice is great even 10 albums into her career, and when the production hits, it HITS. Wow specifically is an actual banger that deserves to be remembered as one of the best songs of 2007. Overall, not everything sticks, but I absolutely see the appeal of this album.
Pretty good. Wolf is one of those albums that I see a lot of hype for that I sorta get, but also, I don't think it lives up to all people call it. I mean, Tyler's writing is definitely pretty good here. He's got no filter, but that also means he throws literally everything he wants, and not all of it sticks. On songs like Rusty, Lone, IFHY 48, and Slater, he's really good at making verses with great flow, but then you hit songs like Parking Lot, Trashwang, and those things ... read more
A pretty fun indie-rock album that sometimes falls a tiny bit flat at times, especially in songs like Love At First Sight and All of the Drugs, but it also has its own respective highs, especially Bike Ride, Better Than Me, and I Will, Tonight. Dallon Weekes is a good lyricist who can make a pretty good song overall. This is definitely a first-project energy album, but it's pretty alright. I mean, I had a good time.
(btw why tf is the songlist completely different on Spotify vs ... read more
This was more of a fun time than Dinosaurchestra, but also equally as confusing. It's fun, at-times batshit insane, and there's really no distinct sound to it, but that's kinda the charm to it for me. It's still nowhere on par with his newer stuff, but it's perfectly serviceable for LD fans.
And here's Jamiroquai's most popular album! This one deserves all of the praise it gets because it is just a great time overall. While it is a bit sad to see the deeply unique Space Cowboy energy mostly gone, it's replaced with something that feels way more put together. Every song is super unique, while still keeping the Jamiroquai sound intact. Some of their undeniably greatest hits are here, from Alright, High Times, Cosmic Girl, the title track, and so many others. And, of ... read more
Objectively an absolute banger. SOAD's style is so unique it really needs to be studied. The way they're able to blend insanely chaotic songwriting and instrumentals with lyrics that actually have so much meaning. They deserve to be remembered as one of the pioneers of 2000's music, because when you think about it, they inspired so much music today. Serj's voice, the heavy guitar, and the overall energy make this just such a great record in general. All of this praise is ... read more
Dude my grandma just CASUALLY recommends me this as if it's not peak what is going on??? This is a prog rock album that's really just one long song. As if that's not a unique concept on its own, the band is able to just keep going and going and GOING to make the entire thing super unique. Even though its one song, it changes up so many times it doesn't feel like the same thing. Skip around both parts and you'll see what I mean. But, It all still feels tied together by ... read more
As the others have said, this EP has kind of become obsolete over the years. 3 of them were later remade on Beginner's Guide, and the other 3 are remakes of Great Tale tracks. But it's not bad. It's pretty decent, and even though Jhariah isn't ALL there yet, the growth in production is definitely there. Worth checking out if you love Jhariah, but don't start here if you're just starting their discography.
A pretty fun debut EP! She can cover a lot of different genres. From rock to pop to slow piano songs, her voice and fun instrumentation makes for a great time. SFL and Haunted by Potential are definitely standouts, but the other 3 are still decent at worst. Yeah, not much else to say. Waiting on the debut album to deliver
This is easily Jamiroquai's best album when it comes to how unique the instrumentals are. Here, it doesn't feel like they're limited by any labels, so any idea they have can be fully realized in the way that they want. And this leads to some really interesting choices that mostly pay off. Off the top of my head, the most memorable ones are the insanely memorable, near 9-minute opener that slowly builds up to a massive orchestral explosion, the slow, low-key instruments in ... read more
Yeah no I wanna defend this one but this is the highest score I can give it. Absolutely amazing ideas here, but you can also tell this was made by a high schooler who lacks the proper equipment, which really sucks! His voice is still so good at this age, and can carry so much emotion. It's also got a cool concept, but it just can't stand up to other albums when it's so undermined, with such a low-quality mic. It needs a lot of work, but if Jhariah ever remasters, this, it'd ... read more
