A surprisingly unique time. Onion has this weirdly nostalgic, classic twentieth-century sound to it that I can't say I've heard a lot of. It's a good rock album with a lot of highlights. It's so weird to me, but it's really something else. The vocalist does a pretty good job, and the instrumentation makes it all sound like an old vinyl record being played. A good throwback-sounding album, if that makes sense.
Playing it safe most of the time. This is a perfectly serviceable pop album, and there's not much else to say about it. When it's good, like in The Rendezvous or La Telenovela, it sounds great, but the rest of it is either just decent or kind of boring. It's not a bad thing, it's just kind of generic.
Absolute fucking gem, genuinely such a left field turn that I'm all for. This album saved my ass on several damn occasions. It's such a pretty album, and it really shows that Andre 3000 is the master of anything he does. This entire album sounds so unique, and to think it's mostly wind instruments shows how versatile he is. This album would kill a small Victorian child, and that's a damn good thing.
A pretty good time, all things considered. "Did you know Harlem Shake guy is Joji?" is up there on the commonly-known music icebreaker questions, and that statement might make you think this would be kind of shit, but nah, it's actually a good listen. Joji's range is pretty good. His falsetto voice can fit a lot of different things, from slow piano, to chill R&B, to synthpop. This album feels a bit all over the place, but still never bad. The worst it ever gets is kind ... read more
I think this album permanently ruined Lemon Demon's reputation as a meme maker. It's so goofy, so unserious, so everything, and I hate the fact that I actually still kinda fuck with it. It's weirdly well produced; the beats sound good. The writing is, of course, dumb as hell, but that's sort of the charm. It's very acquired taste, and you'll hate it on listen 1, but it's good once you get used to it.
Solid EP, not much else to say. Call Out My Name and Try Me are highlights for me. This feels like a collection of singles to ease fans between releases, and it's good at that. It's a nice time, and perfectly serviceable for his discography. Nice instrumentals, nice voice, standard for The Weeknd. Not much else to say.
Gonna be a bit of a contrarian and say that I'm not a huge fan of this album. I think that the voice is great, and when they make coherent songs, they do sound really good. I'm a big fan of Strangelove, Nothing, and Never Let Me Down Again. But it also feels like this album is kinda full of filler, honestly. Especially the two long instrumentals at the end, it feels more like a collection of songs. If they could make an album where all the songs are like the former, it could be really ... read more
I will never be able to, in the goodness of my heart, fairly critique this album. This was the first album I've ever really listened to, and it still holds up pretty damn well. I'm not that much into the instrumental chiptune sound anymore, but this is, like, objectively well produced. These were produced in a way where it does sound like an 8-bit style, but there's still real-sounding instruments, mainly the bass and the drums. It's just a great time overall. Admittedly, ... read more
I am so incredibly fucking confused. After two albums, it seems like Linkin Park had this clear route to being a great nu-metal band, and this album is anything but that. Now obviously, experimentation is good, and trying new things can work, but this album seriously seems like it doesn't know what it wants to be. This is the awkward identity crisis of the band, I'm sure of it. It's like, some songs sound more like a sequel to Meteora, in that they're loud and angsty, but ... read more
This and Hybrid Theory back to back was insane, what were they on??? In my opinion, this album takes what Hybrid Theory does and makes it better. The album is still loud, but it channels the anger into more of a dramatic, general-angst tone. This makes for an album that tries to experiment a bit with songs that do sound different, but you can still look at it and go "yep, that's definitely Linkin Park". Songs like Numb, Lying from You, and Faint feel like a really interesting ... read more
Yeah, okay this one deserves the praise it gets. Truth be told, this slow kind of music is definitely something that's more iffy for me. But this album really feels like something different. This might be kind of influenced by the album cover, but it really feels like a painting. Every single layer feels intentional to create a bigger picture. Lorde's beautiful voice, the soft, overlaying instrumentals, the ability to go from 0 to 100 in just a few seconds, it really is phenomenal. ... read more
Actually pretty good. Ghost isn't entirely my thing, but I think this is one of the most put-together albums of theirs by far. The production is really nice, the songs feel like they all belong with one another, the writing is actually pretty decent compared to its two predecessors, and the entire time, you feel like you're really brought into the world of the album. It's better when it's heard in one piece instead of being on a playlist, but it's still a solid album.
I also used to really love this album, and it also has fallen off of me recently. It's not bad, just kind of confusing? First, the pros. I think that the concept and silliness/not being tied to one genre works in the album's favor, letting it do a lot of things. From The Bidding to Ruler of Everything to Spring and a Storm, it all feels connected, yet different. However, sometimes the band gets kind of too ridiculous for its own good, especially in Banana Man, Two Wuv, and Haiku. ... read more
Love Me Forever is one of the best indie albums to come out of the 2020s, full stop. Let's just start from the top: From the very first track, the album hits you hard. The sound is loud, yet organized, yet also unstoppable. As it progresses, the album covers a plethora of topics, some of which are more traditional, such as hiding your problems in i'm not crying you're crying, and some breakup songs in Trust Fall and Cinderella. But, other tracks feel more inspired to serious ... read more
In recent times, this album has kind of grown off of me, but I think this is still a pretty solid debut album. I honestly don't have a lot to say about it. It's early 2020's slightly indie slightly mainstream pop, so take that as you will. Your fair share of happy songs, sad songs, and angry songs, it feels like a radio channel almost, which a concept album is always good. There's a bit of uninspired lyricism, and sometimes the beats do fall a bit flat, but when it reaches ... read more
Death Metal isn't really my thing, but I can at least appreciate the sound of this. I really like the mix of orchestra and symphonic orchestra, and the production is really detailed. These seem like they're really detailed. I won't go into how it's not for me, because that's not fair to the album itself, but it is a good one for fans of this genre.
I have tried so many times to like this album and I can't bring myself to even like it a tiny bit anymore. Now that my Tally Hall brainrot era is over, I can confidently say this sucks. I really like Tally Hall's silliness, and I get this is supposed to be unseriousness, but this just feels stupid as hell to the point where you can tell Joe Hawley is starting to spiral. This is the same guy who made Hawaii: Part II, which I GAVE A 100. Seriously, what is happening? It's just ... read more
This is easily one of the best albums of the past 10 years, and I will not be taking any criticisms on this. Kali Uchis is a genuine masterpiece-maker. There's so much I could say, but I'll try to keep it brief. For one, I absolutely love this type of music. It's chill/R&B, but it's not tied to that genre. Throughout the entire album, she explores so many other genres using a base sound. Usually, I don't like when albums are all over the place, but it doesn't ... read more
This was a pretty fun time, all things considered. Umazane Misli is an album that helps you realize that everyone can be sad, everyone can be horny, and everyone can do cocaine. In all seriousness, though, this was a pretty fun time. I thought it was never bad, and everything was well written and produced enough to make for a pretty solid finished product. It may not be entirely my thing, but I dunno, I think I can definitely get people liking this. Check this out if you're into horniness ... read more
