Max Richter - SLEEP
NR

Welp, I’ve tried putting this album on multiple times while going to sleep, and I gotta say… I just can’t fall asleep to this. There’s something so melancholic and somber about it that I can’t really explain, it always makes me feel really empty and sad. I don’t even know how to rate an album like this, all of the compositions are very well made and emotionally impactful, but the main gimmick of this project just doesn’t work for me at all. 青葉市子 [Ichiko Aoba] - Asleep Among Endives
100

Usually an artists most popular song isn’t a highlight in their discography, this is one instance where I don’t think this is the case. I’m glad it became as popular as it did because this is for sure one of here best songs

青葉市子 [Ichiko Aoba] - qp

Not quite as unique or interesting as 0 but it’s still a really solid folk album, tracks 2 and 10 are just breathtaking.

青葉市子 [Ichiko Aoba] - 0

0?!?!? More like 85!!!

This is a really awesome singer/songwriter album, I love how it can go from songs that were recorded in the outdoors to really cleanly produced and almost poppy sounding songs. It has a surprising amount of diversity for how simple and stripped down it is, I would love to hear more folk albums that sound like this.

공중도둑 [Mid-Air Thief] - Overcoat

I really wish this was turned into a full song because this sounds really good, it’s just so short.

공중도둑 [Mid-Air Thief] - 무너지기 [Crumbling]

Ahhhh, this album is so beautiful!

One of the most tender, sweet, and colourful albums I’ve heard come out of Asia. Every song is packed with so much detail and emotion, you can tell this was made by someone with a real passion and dedication to their craft. These chains, Gameun deut, Curve and light, Crumbling together, and No answer are some of the most mind blowing and beautiful songs of all time. The only reason I don’t think this album is a ten yet is because I personally ... read more

Porter Robinson - Hollowheart

Well Porter, you’ve done it again, you made yet another song that has had me on the verge of tears almost every time I listen to it. How does he do it?!?

Porter Robinson - Worlds
98

Worlds, an album that really means a lot to me, an album which has endlessly inspired me, and most importantly an album that does an incredible job at capturing the futile beauty of escapism. It’s a life changing masterpiece that will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Porter Robinson - Spitfire

Yikes, this was not a very enjoyable listen. This project is pretty obnoxious and annoying, with some very dumb and silly sounding dubstep drops. 100% in the Bitch in particular is a contender for Porter’s worst song, I have no idea what he was smoking while making that. The only thing keeping me from rating this lower is that Vandalism and the seconds are actually pretty decent, but still nothing to write home about.

I’m so glad Porter moved away from this direction entirely since ... read more

Alessandro Grespan - Youtube duet: Miles Davis improvising on LCD Soundsystem

Certified masterpiece, one of my favorite YouTube videos of all time.

MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS - ワールドイズユアーズ [World Is Yours]
87

Dang, I need to listen to some more post-hardcore because this is awesome! Not only are the instrumentals epic and hard hitting, but the vocals are very pretty and almost cute. I don’t have much to say, it’s just an awesome Ep.

Also track 3 really needs more love, I seriously don’t understand why it’s the lowest rated track here.

Candy Claws - Ceres & Calypso in the Deep Time
93

Some of the prettiest shoegaze I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing, this album sounds so colourful, magical, and beautiful. My favorite aspect of this record is definitely the extremely blown out production, I’ve always loved albums that are simultaneously noisy and beautiful, it’s such a unique combination that always blows me away whenever I hear it. I honestly don’t have much to say about this record, it’s just an insanely beautiful and fun listen all around. ... read more

Candy Claws - Two Airships / Exploder Falls

A really fun and glitchy album, sounds like Velocity design comfort on crack. I was never a big fan of this album the first time I heard it but it’s really grown on me recently, and while I still think Ceres and Calypso in the deep time is better, I still find this to be an incredibly fun and enjoyable project.

ミラクルミュージカル [Miracle Musical] - Hawaii: Part II

I’m 14 and this is deep: the album

This is such a frustrating project because it had so much potential to be good, but Joe Hawley had to ruin it with pretentious lyrics and questionable production choices. Songs like Isle unto thyself and Dream sweet in sea Major have genuinely incredible instrumentals and vocal melodies, but are ruined by some of the most pretentious lyrics I’ve ever heard on any album. And don’t get me started on space station level 7 and The mind ... read more

Brian Eno - Apollo: Atmospheres and Soundtracks
87

While On land is my favorite of the ambient series, this album is definitely my favorite Brian Eno album. I love the mix between the spacey dark ambient tracks and the minimal and dreamy guitar tracks, Always returning might honestly be my favorite Brian Eno song. Awesome stuff.

Brian Eno - Ambient 4: On Land
87

Now this is more like it! Not sure if this is a hot take but this might honestly be my favorite album in the ambient series, I’ve always been a sucker for creepy and ominous music so it makes sense that this clicked with as much as it did.

Laraaji - Ambient 3: Day of Radiance
70

Definitely my least favourite of the ambient series but it’s still pretty enjoyable and interesting. While The dance half of the record doesn’t interest me very much, the Meditation half is genuinely relaxing and beautiful.

Definitely gets a few points for standing out in the quadrilogy.

Harold Budd - Ambient 2: The Plateaux of Mirror
83

While not quite as good as Music for airports, it’s still a very pretty and relaxing album. Brian Eno’s production transforms Harold Budd’s piano performances into some downright gorgeous pieces of music, with First light, An arc of doves, and Not yet remembered being the biggest highlights for me.

Brian Eno - Ambient 1: Music For Airports
85

I mean, it’s Music for airports, what is there to say about this album that hasn’t already been said before? And while I personally don’t consider it to be the peak of the genre, it’s still an ambient classic with 1/1 and 2/2 having aged incredibly well and still being two of the best songs in the genre.

坂本龍一 [Ryuichi Sakamoto] - Barco
95

Surprisingly creepy! I’m not sure if this song fits with the rest of the songs on Insen but it’s definitely a much more satisfying ending than Avaol.
