Somehow more slick than their first couple records while still retaining much of the heaviness and chaos.
Supremely fun and exciting album!!
It's really nice!
A big improvement on her previous EP, and I even liked that one! The dynamics (from song to song and within songs) draw nicely from established folk and indie conventions in a fun way. I like the minimalist but effective lyrics and melodies too.
The title track is one of the best 90's revivalist indie rock songs in recent years solely on the basis of the chorus cut-outs and the incorporation of the banjoes.
Honestly pretty solid! Like the lyrical perspective and catchy chorus and post-chorus riff.
Mavi’s pen is still strong and his flows are effortlessly nimble and evolve naturally into exciting directions on each track.
Production, though not all absolutely stellar, at least pushes his sound into some new directions which excites me for the further possibilities in his future. I’m thinking in particular of the trap drums coming in on METHODS and the time-warped strings and guitar on TOWN CRIER.
This thing made me excited about hip-hop like I haven’t been in a second.
