Another absolutely great record by Unwound!
This one leans way more into post-hardcore and noise rock than Leaves Turn Inside You. While that project felt more layered and atmospheric, this one just goes way harder in general and just feels like it's trying to beat the shit out of you.
I find this to be just as good as Leaves Turn Inside You, honestly it just depends what kind of mood I am in. It's between feeling like I want to be in a hopeless desolate wasteland or feeling like I ... read more
It's pretty good for what it is. This isn't usually the style of metal I listen to therefore I probably won't be returning to this a lot, but the album itself is fairly well done and enjoyable.
Ok fine, the new album might actually be somewhat decent.
This one is like a modern take on some of the synth-heavy tracks from the BHAR era. Probably the best single so far, doesn't feel extremely over the top and Matt's vocals sound really good. The synthwork sounds pretty great too. Might be their best song in years.
It really didn't occur to me how terrible this song is until 'Selfless' came on right after it ended.
Production and instrumentation are fine, if a little gutless, but the writing and the vocals just aren't good.
Not really getting me excited for the new album, I think think this will just be another Alpha Games.
Thanks for the recommendation @skratchity.
I love the soundscape of this track and I think the general atmosphere it's going for is really good. I think that the vocals and the mixing do need some improving.
I don't really know that much about mixing, but to me the mix sounded just a bit too hollow. I understand that the song is trying to establish a spaced out and distant atmosphere, but it just feels like it lacks some punch? I guess maybe a larger emphasis on the rhythm section ... read more
This album is so good.
I am genuinely shocked at how great this album is. I expected to enjoy this record to at least some extent since I absolutely loved "Jumpers" when I first heard it, but I did not expect to be this surprised after hearing this record.
"The Woods" is one of those records that I had on my radar for quite a long while now and I've just been putting off listening to it for some reason. I really should have checked it out way sooner, cause this is ... read more
The most "The National" The National album.
I'm a huge fan of this band so obviously it's a great album, I just have a few issues with it. My main problem is that this album continues the more minimalist, polished sound of "High Violet" which is an album that, at worst, sounded very colorless and lifeless.
Now obviously, this sound DOES work really well on some tracks, just like it did on their previous album, but it can also feel really draining and dull. This ... read more
This has some really cool instrumental moments, but WHAT THE HELL was Julian's stupid ass thinking with that awful vocal effect.
Loved hearing this in "Need For Speed: Carbon" as a child lmao
One of the most underrated songs to come out of the 2000s indie rock scene. Really infectious, really danceable, reminds me of the early Franz Ferdinand records.
It's kinda like if Pixies went noise I guess.
"You're Living All Over Me" is a haunting yet appropriate title for this very noisy and abrasive 80s rock record. It's a striking composition of nice sounding, very melodic and well performed guitar riffs behind the abrasive noisy exterior and lo-fi recording. To top it all off, we have the vocalist which sounds kinda tired over all of that.
Honestly, it's the production and the noisy aspects that make this album ... read more
Oh dear god. Not good, not good at all, very bad.
It's Muse doing yet another tacky love song with extremely corny lyrics and just horrible production. The synths sound incredibly outdated and the vocal effects make Matt's voice sound awfully grating and the song just gets worse when they introduce this awful compressed to shit guitar in the ending of the song.
This shit is ass, I am NOT looking forward to the new album.
This is an incredibly oddball project, especially for the time and place it was released in.
I think this album works the best when it just does the more post-punky, new wavey kind of sound with some mild but interesting experimental inclusions. Tracks like the catchy "Kenozoik" and "Odbrana", the bouncy "Poslednji Dani" and the intense "Nemo" are all awesome post-punk tracks that deserve more recognition. They are the crown jewels of this album and the ... read more
All I can say is that it really deserves the legendary status it has, even if this style isn't usually my kind of thing. Incredibly well done, with some absolutely legendary songs on here.
Abandoned Scriptures
- cool atmosphere
- not huge on the vocal effects
- sounds kinda nice though
- picks up at the 1 and half minute mark, sounds awesome
- instrumentation is the highlight here for sure
- this is such a pleasant riff
- great opener
84/100
Holy Cow, She's Everywhere!
- i am down with the atmosphere this track is establishing
- lyrics are fun
- instrumentation is fun, but once again, I don't think I am too keen on the vocals here
- weird vocal effect near the 3 minute ... read more
So a while back I checked out the most recent album by this band as per recommendation of a friend. I didn't really hate it but it wasn't good either. I decided to check this album out then cause it has a significantly higher user score and I didn't even hate their most recent album, so this should be a slam dunk right?
THIS ALBUM FUCKING SUCKS DUDE WHAT??????????
I don't get the appeal of this at all. First off, I just absolutely hate the vocals on here. They are so whiny ... read more
Feels like a way more frustrated and angrier album than the other ones I heard from this band so far. The album still has a pleasant sound you'd mostly expect from The National, but it does lean more into the indie rock side of things.
It's definitely a more bitter and less matured version of the band, but I actually think this kind of sound suits them quite well. It's clear that the foundation was already laid out here, it just needed some tweaking to be pulled off better on ... read more
