A fun little album that entertained me decently but was mostly background music. Certainly unique and memorable, but I don't think I'll be coming back for relistens tbh. CHEEZY STREET goes hard tho
Smith's experimentation with a louder, closer to rock type of sound takes his well-crafted melodies and introduces them to the wonders of electricity. As a concept, I would've expected this album to not work out so well; Smith's low energy, personal style of songwriting always felt like it suited him strongly, but in practice he shows that he has just as much talent with higher energy rock ballads as he did with the whispery tracks from Either/Or.

There are songs on this album that I have loved since I started listening to music at all, and songs that I fell in love with recently after listening to the full album for the first time. Morrissey, as much of a cunt as he can be, was really on point here and Johnny Marr was jamming.
The first half of this album has no skips, it's great but the second half I haven't warmed up to yet
an enchanting experience that perfectly reflects my vast, vast soul.
