Wasted Potential.

Doja Cat is an UFO in this fucking rap game. Last year, she released the single from another planet "Mooo!". With her completely crazy video clip, this delirious track in which the rapper thinks she is a cow, quickly became viral. Today, the revelation of 2018 with her rather good debut album "Amala", comes back with her new sophomore album entitled "Hot Pink". An album that looks very different from the first one, getting a little closer to mainstream pop.

"Hot Pink" presents very little of what Doja Cat is known for: her playful style and ironic lyrics. Nothing that has been shown on singles like "Mooo!" or "Tia Tamera" are part of his second try. After listening to the first 2 tracks "Cyber Sex" or "Won't Bite", we feel that the originality and freshness that Doja had offered us in her debut album has very clearly disappeared. The album goes up a little bit with the very good single "Bottom Bitch" which is certainly the best song on the album in my opinion. Acceptable moments accompany the album throughout the listening with "Rules", "Say So" and "Better Than Me" which give us a good production and a good RnB-Rap mix that gives us back this energy discovered on the first album. But this new project clearly suffers from the lack of substance and content (12 tracks without counting the Juicy remix). The commercial pop side invades most of the songs and ruins the signature and vibe Doja Cat had accustomed us.

Overall, a failed album that clearly didn't match the first opus, which had its own identity and fresh air. For a woman full of enthusiasm, this album gives the impression of having been made to finish a quota. One day, Miss Doja Cat will release a pop masterpiece. One day, she will channel all her creativity and fulfilled personality into a set of impressive, diverse and coherent songs. She can do it, she will.

But not with "Hot Pink"...

Best tracks: "Bottom Bitch", "Juicy", "Say So", "Rules".

Worst track: "Streets"

What do you think about Say So though? That’s by far my favorite track off of this album

@Kuru Say So is clearly one of the best tracks on this album, but I still prefer "Bottom Bitch" and "Juicy" tbh.
