I don't know how well this musical concept has really aged over the years, but this is one of Bowie's most unique and fascinating records in my opinion, and possibly my favorite as well. By this point, Bowie was really beginning to dip his toes into the more experimental and unconventional sides of rock music, a concept that he perhaps explores most thoroughly and fascinatingly on "Low", but simultaneously I still can't bring myself to love it due largely to that crazy second half. Because while yes, the instrumental tracks are certainly interesting and strange and really bring out an atmosphere, at what cost? It drags the record down for me and I've rarely ever felt so disconnected from the artist making the album. Some of Bowie's coolest song ideas come out of this project but by the end of it he just feels like he's a million miles away. What comes as a result of this is one of his most daring and experimental feats, but also one that still feels lacking in its own ways.
