One of the most interesting discographies I've encountered for sure. Still getting through all of it, so we can enjoy this journey ✨together✨
Read this backwards for the best experience, starting from the bottom. Hot takes galore, opinions change sometimes
1.
probably the coldest take on this list. i love this thing to bits, it's amazing.
2.
the best kind of daydreaming. once this thing clicks, it CLICKS. gorgeous solo album.
3.
now we're at fantastic territory, only the biggest of big bois from here
i really like this ep. all the songs are good, but WWIW?S alone makes this thing soar.
4.
i'm a fake fan ik. i can't help myself! it's dumb, silly, near meaningless fun and i really vibe with it.
5.
9 bangers in a row! really fun stuff here
6.
solid, fun electropop! nothing incredible but nothing terrible either, just a very good solo album. i'd say we're in *great* category here. none of that B tier stuff anymore
7.
fun album, has a lot of creativity. nothing AMAZING but it's pretty solid.
8.
from here on out we get into the pretty good stuff.
the opener is gorgeous, the next three songs aren't as good but have a lot of catchy moments
9.
definitely not their best sound but there's plenty of fun moments here
10.
just not big on their freak folk stuff. I like freak folk in theory, and this is a pleasant little experience, plenty of really nice touches, but there aren't quite enough amazing moments to push this that high up the list.
11.
nothing terrible here, nothing really amazing either. sometimes the noisy radio style works very well, sometimes it really doesn't, but it's an overall pretty interesting and respectable album
12.
yeah sorry!!! has the issues of early anco but less so. alvin row goes hard
13.
about what i'd expect for what's presumably a Painting With B-sides EP. decent
14.
like MotW, this too is an album that exists
15.
it exists? only listened to this once, opinion might change
16.
why did they release the music they play at indoor aquariums as an LP

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Ark. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Avey Tare's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from Merzbow literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Ark truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "a̷̯͍̪̗̙̋͗ö̬̲̯̮ͧ̉͝ĕ̸̝̣̾̅ͩd̢̪͇̮̪̃̚j͚̱͍͚͖̔ͩ͌͡v͙̦̞̥̹͓͇̟̔ͧͯ̒͜ǹ̉͏̗͍ḱ̢͍̼̪͎̊͐̈w͓̱̝̝̪̣̐͋͞e̵̗̜̠͕̼̿ͤͮ" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Animal Collective's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I pity them. And yes by the way, I DO have an Ark tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
