This is probably my favorite album of all time. Will Toledo does a fantastic job at making music that is accessible, unique, and emotionally layered all at the same time. Listening to this album is an emotional journey; Famous Prophets and Twin Fantasy (Those Boys) are some of my favorite ending songs of all time. Each song here is an important piece of an important album - I've listened to this probably over a hundred times, and I never get tired of it.

Overall, Room on Fire is pretty similar to Is This It. This album sports the lo-fi garage-rocky sound associated with The Strokes, and still has some incredible guitar riffs (Reptilia). I do also like the addition of some new, more experimental sounds; the synthy guitar parts in 12:51 are really cool, and add something interesting. There are a few key differences between this and their debut album - for some reason, there are a few parts where the mixing just sounded kind of... 'off' to me, and ... read more

Every time I come back to this album, I'm surprised by just how well it's aged. Every song has that early-2000's garage rock vibe to it, but after almost 20 years, they're still just as catchy and enjoyable. The album sounds lo-fi and homemade, but in this case, it really makes it work.

This entire album has some incredible guitar and bass riffs, such as the instantly recognizable opening to "Barely Legal", or the smooth pre-chorus guitar on "New York City Cops". One other ... read more
