Daft Punk - Discovery

One of Kanye West’s biggest hits was his 2007 single “Stronger”, the song is musically derivative of Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger”, with a slowed vocal sample of the track playing in the background. When West first heard it after release, he was perpetually convinced that it was inferior in all facets compared to the original from the French House duo.

And he was right.

For “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” is quite possibly the most perfect house song to ever exist. The vibrant keyboard riffs, the irresistibly danceable beat, the pitch-corrected vocals, they all just get stuck in your head. And Discovery continues to have more to offer within the realm of dance. The segmented and layered use of synths and guitars in the rock-tinted “Aerodynamic”, the pensive and moody atmosphere of “Something About Us” and the pure instrumental bliss that is “Crescendolls”, are spotless displays of Daft Punk’s technical prowess and earworm-creating witchcraft. It must be quite a fascinating feeling to see the world still trying to play catch-up to an album you made over 20 years ago. (David Guetta could NEVER)

The tantalizing 89 however, was cemented by my (most likely) pedantic complaint that some songs could’ve used a smidge more brevity, considering the inherently repetitive nature of the house genre. But for every slightly monotone track, Daft Punk almost always supplants it with a ridiculously colorful and outrageously catchy follow-up. So if you're looking for some happy-go-lucky music that prompts the emergence of your carefree side? Look no further than the very-disco Discovery.
