I’d consider myself a UMO fan, but I have to say I’m disappointed with this one. I’m not inherently opposed to hazed out production and lengthy instrumental interludes, but the funk in between those moments really needs to groove, and I feel V so rarely achieves this. There are some interesting lyrical moments if you can cut through the fog to find them. I wouldn’t say those few standout moments are worth sifting through the hour of material, however.

Beautifully executed world building on this project. Shana’s reflections on motherhood and love in connection to nature are profound and incredibly lovely. I’m an indoor kitty myself, but this project beckons me to get outside and get lost in the beauty of nature. You’d expect guitar and woodwinds on an album such as this, and they are certainly present and heavily featured, but I especially appreciate her use of synth to invoke the sounds and scenes of the natural world. ... read more

Completely obsessed with the vocal mixing on this album. The production is another stand out. Where this album loses me is it’s lyricism but overall a very satisfying listen.

This is the product of only being allowed to listen to Christian radio as a child. Uninspired “you are my religion” lyricism paired with megachurch folk pop ballideering does not a good album make.
