This album is no doubt a masterpeice. Although i dont quite understand the context in which this album was released because i was born wayy after this came out, what i do know is that Prince is simply battling head first into all the problems we can think of, delivering a sort of.. So Prince makes an entire album for the Batman movie and… I love it! There’s nothing quite extraordinary or bold as some of his best works but this is still a all around solid record. He brings so much life to these songs, even when they are at their darkest and moodiest. The samples and orchestral touches to this album also gives it more cohesion and makes it a overall cool listen. I wanna watch Batman now.
For her second album, Madonna kinda strips back a lot of what makes her music interesting and compelling to begin with. Instead she delivers a stale, boring and generic collection of songs. I’m not mad at this record, I’m just disappointed. There are some pretty good ideas but they get overshadowed by the boring and the bland. Lovesexy is not bad, but it’s not great. Over the course of 8 tracks that run on for way too long, Prince delivers sexy, quirky and positive lyrics over lush pop beats. Where this album fails for me is that there’s nothing really special about them. All these songs just sound average, or even boring.
