I love James Blake as a feature artist and as a producer, but holy smokes listening to a solo record of his is a tough task for me. I enjoyed this more than his self-titled for what it's worth...
When I was looking at the Grammy list the other day, I couldn't understand why this record got so many nominations, and while I still don't understand why so much, I culd see why the Academy would give this album some recognition. It's a pretty good RnB/Soul LP, short enough to keep me interested all the way through.
This feels very safe. When you're a band with an album considered by many as the best in its genre, there are expectations to deliver some original material everytime you drop. Now don't get me wrong, this sounds good, but just not up to par with what they've made in the past.
Some of the minor highlights of this record are shaded by the absolutely terrible songs in the tracklist, like Giza. City Boys is an enjoyable song, and I do understand the appeal, but there's just not enough for me to really enjoy this despite the appearance of a few big names in rap.
I feel like the only reason why I'm giving this a higher rating than Quavo's is simply because I like Offset better as an overall artist and rapper. DON'T YOU LIE is one of my most listened to songs in the past few months, it absolutely slaps.
The intentions behind this were really nice, but this just feels like a Offset-and-Takeoff (RIP)-less Migos record (for the most part at least). There are some really good highlights, like the last two songs, but it's also too long of an album . I liked Quavo as a part of Migos because they complemented each other very well, but without the other two, I need a smaller dose of each of them. A 50 minutes album is too much for me.
This album suffers from its length. It’s not entirely bad, there are some highlights on here but for the most part it’s a long mess. This better not win any Grammys this year, get your stuff together Academy…
As an album this is okay, nothing too amazing. The thing with this record is how much it is fitting of the actual movie. Some songs towards the end I don’t recall hearing, but songs by artists like Lizzo, Dua Lipa, Charli, Billie and even Ryan Gosling are perfect for that kind of movie. I will say again that this record is very front loaded. Everything after Billie Eilish is very much forgettable.
You know Blur is a legendary band but I don’t tend to expect much out of these 90’s bands new records. Damon had already disappointed me with Gorillaz and my hopes were lower. It’s a nice surprise to hear such a complete and original new record. It’s short and sweet and does exactly what a Blur record should do.
The vibes are immaculate. It’s a simple album: it makes you want to dance and have the time of your life. The Brazilian artist really came through with this record.
The more I listen to hyperpop the more I love it. There’s a liberty in this record that is so addicting. I’m a sucker for weird and well done production and this delivers exactly that. It’s so fun of an album.
Now on the other end this is a record I had higher hopes for that did not deliver. It’s bland, it’s repetitive and doesn’t have an inch of the "creativity" that ALLTY5 had. This is the worse that Trippie gave us this year.
I know this score isn’t insanely high but it’s higher than I expected to give ALLTY5. Trippie’s sound is kinda dead and overused but this record isn’t the worst thing in the world.
A bit of a disappointing effort from Noname this time around. Regardless of everything surrounding the release of this record, there's not enough for us to enjoy. Room 25 and Telefone are great projects and I did expect this to live up to the hype. It's still decent, but far from what could've been. There's no real highlight on the album. It's just tough to support this.
All in all a fun album. This sounds like if Green Day still made relevant music today. There's a definite energy throughout this record that make you want more of it.
The good news is I liked this better than Sinner Get Ready. The bad news is I still don't enjoy listening to this genre of music. It's just not for me, I tried times and times again and it's painful. The audio on that opening track is so unpleasant, and those back vocals on the closing track are ruining what sounded like the best song on the record.
The genres presented in this record all fit very well together. You can tell there’s a bunch of very talented producers on here. Also that cover is sick, I live every bit of it.
