Andrew "AMC Gremlin" Collins continues his trackrecord of consistency with Melonville, a series of loosely themed chiptunes (although that is likely understating it) that have considerable range in mood. It's honestly hard to pick out which of these tracks standout, but if I had to take a shot out of it, it's worth listening to Melonville for tracks two, five, six, and seven. Great stuff, overall.
This is definitely one that's grown on me a bit over the years. The highlights of this are, in fact, highlights. No matter how many times I spin this, House Cats and Pinholes of Light are absolutely adorable, and the title track, Northern Thirst, has a nostalgic appeal that I've yet to put my finger on. I have been a fan of Andrew Collins's work since stumbling across his work with The Skeletones Four, a short-lived novelty rock band. After a nearly five-year hiatus in releases, he's put out nearly an hour of new music. I really resonate with this. I don't know how to describe it, other than to say that this is my happy music. I can put on any song from this and feel myself at ease in the moment.
I don't really care to criticize this much because this is very special and ... read more
