General Rules
Upcoming Releases
Only add upcoming releases that have been officially announced by the artist or their label. An artist mentioning they are working on new music does not qualify as an official announcement.
A release is considered ready to add when it meets all of the following criteria:
- The album has an official title (not "TBA", "Untitled", or a placeholder)
- A confirmed release date or at minimum a confirmed release month/year has been announced
- The announcement comes from an official source such as the artist's official social media, their record label, or a major music publication
Do not add a release based on:
- Rumors or fan speculation
- An artist saying they are "working on" or "finishing up" new music
- Unverified leaks or social media speculation from non-official accounts
- A release date that is entirely speculative (e.g. "they usually put out an album every two years so it's probably coming")
Albums added with placeholder titles or unconfirmed release dates will be deleted. Repeated violations will result in your contribution permissions being revoked.
Adding Your Own Music
AOTY is a music database and review site, not a promotional platform. If you are an artist, the following rules apply when adding your own releases:
- Only add releases that are fully completed or officially released. Do not add planned, in-progress, or unreleased recordings.
- Do not add releases solely for self-promotion. Releases should be added because they are relevant to the database, not to gain exposure.
- Your release must meet the same standards as any other submission (official title, release date, cover art, and tracklist).
- Do not add informal or joke releases not intended for a general audience. Once a release is added to the site, it becomes part of the permanent database and will not be deleted on request.
Sourcing
Releases must be available on a major music platform such as Spotify, Apple Music, or Bandcamp, released physically, or covered by a recognized music publication. Releases hosted / listed exclusively on YouTube, BandLab, Genius, or similar platforms do not meet the threshold for inclusion. Releases posted only to social media accounts such as Instagram, TikTok, etc. do not qualify regardless of outside coverage.
Releases released exclusively through AI music platforms such as Suno or Udio, do not qualify for inclusion.
