Proxy is a very nice prog album with jazz and soul elements sprinkled across the 60-something-minute runtime. The sound production isn't the best this band has ever had, but it's still not as bad as it could've been.
The opening track Proxy at a robust 16 minutes + is filled with stunning musicality. What it lacks is a lyrical content to match the superb musicianship. Andy Tillison is an accomplished musician. I have talked about The Tangent before, so I don't need to give them an introduction at this point. This album is their follow-up to 2017, highly political and poetic, The Slow Rust Of Forgotten Machinery. Up until that point, this band has been relatively playing it a bit safe with their Prog convictions, sometimes dipping their toes in other styles, but mostly stayed true to a more symphonic and jazzy style of prog rock.
