While many bands have copied this particular sound in the years since Immolation came to be, nobody can quite do it like the masters and Descent is just further proof that they're still on the very top of their game after nearly four decades.

All killer, no filler, and utterly relentless in its pursuit of the ultimate, infernal dopamine hit, "Descent" is one of the greatest records Immolation have made yet, and a living, screaming monument to one of death metal's most immutable forces of nature.

Distorted Sound
This is a lean, mean, killing machine of a record, one that is precise in its aural punishment. Strap yourselves in and brace for 42 minutes of some of the most ferociously sick death metal you’ll likely hear all year.

While perhaps not topping the late high-water mark of 2022’s Acts Of God, this pungent slice of evil continues what might just be Immolation’s new purple patch.

Angry Metal Guy
This twelfth album, soon upon us, perpetuates that standard and may even prove, with time, to have elevated it once again. At the very least, it ranks among my personal favorites by these New Yorkers. It is my intention, consequently, to spend every free moment basking in its consuming flame.

666... THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST

My 666th review!

The Devil's review couldn't have been better spent than with Immolation's new, menacing, and disturbing album.
I swear I didn't do it on purpose; I only realized it yesterday.

I could have written something about a specific album, perhaps some milestone in Black Metal... instead, faithful to the new rather than the classics, allow me to cite Dante Alighieri's Inferno, the cruelest depiction of the eternal fate of ... read more

arguably the most consistent death metal band are back with a new banger. Hell yeah! It's true that it doesn't differ much from the rest of their discography, but they know what they're doing and they're doing it very well. All performances are top-notch, but the guitarwork, as usual, is the main stand out. Especially on tracks like Bend Towards the Dark. That tone is also lovely, sounds absolutely visceral live. What I like about this album more than about Acts of God is ... read more

It’s great to see bands like Immolation still going strong this deep into their career, delivering solid records all around. Descent, while not as devilish and raw as their classic material, is an epic display of hard-hitting death metal, embracing that atmospheric brand of dissonant death metal they are known for. I’m aware of the love this album is getting and I’m proud of the band, but I’m not really ranking it as high as others might do. I think I prefer their older ... read more

Ears already trained with the amount of bleood and death grips i have to listen to each day. But on a serious note i did not expect a Death metal album to be this good. This might be the only death metal album i ever listen to, because after this i need to cleanse my ears with water, holy water.
