Post-Punk is a fairly well known genre. There are plenty of well known post-punk acts. Joy Division, The Cure, The Sound, Public Image Ltd, Wire, etc. Each band having achieved some good amount notoriety during their prime, and if not, managed to gain a huge cult-following.
