It feels at times like Kryptograf is playing things a little too safe, and perhaps holding back from their clear potential.

Kryptograf's self-titled debut is an uncompromisingly heavy statement of an album, begging the comparison to the best works of Black Sabbath. The riffs are unique and brooding, with flashes of Iommi's signature techniques, and the drumming evokes images of Bill Ward's booming presence behind the kit. That being said, the singer is no Ozzy Osbourne, and is only a minor footnote to the looming and powerful instrumentals.
