Exceptional gothic metal record, with wonderful darkwave tinges reminiscent of Depeche Mode. Phenomenal instrumental work and the songwriting is at their best. Has some weaker moments and that's the only reason why it's a little lower than their best ones considering the sound they were going for here is exceptional
My favourite Paradise Lost album. The one I listened to countless number of times during my teenage years.
From the first two singles to titles like Mercy or Soul Courageous this album is a perfection. Yes it's less metal than Draconian Times but the gothic style of the band is at his highest.
As good as I remember.
While more rock oriented, this is still a fantastic showcase of their gothic side. The singing has improved a bit, which is nice. The fact that some of the edge isn't here is the only reason why I'm rating this lower than Draconian Times
