before i knew ian as the white boy rapping on Zaytoven-stylized beats, i grew familiar with the more ambient and flexuous ian. it's a shame the reception of Valedictorian tarnished ian's reputation because his embrace of more experimental, phantasmagoric underground rap production (especially with gyo and .cutspace), undeniable sense of melody, and slippery cadence make it eerily intriguing. ian's earlier material is loads more interesting, and shouldn't be shunned because ... read more
