Is this a good album? Yes. Worth listening to? Yes. Current AOTY? I guess. Did J Cole create a career-defining album to send off his career? Not even close. This is yet another album I feel disappointed by, with very few songs that stood out. A whole lot of 82-85 level songs, very few 90+ songs that are worth listening to alone. I don't know how else to say it, I wish it had more energy, it feels like Cole retired mid-album, still an amazing discography tho.
The best album of 2026 so far, Don manages to be engaging for all 18 tracks. Even through different flow changes and tones, everything feels unique. The middle section was the worst, but the first 4 tracks and the last 7 make up for it. Rosary is a solid collab with Trav, a surprisingly chill song for the duo but a welcome change. Overall, a really solid album I will be returning to a lot, definitely my favorite Don album so far
I still find myself going back to this album regularly. Honestly, there are no real skips on The Goat, easily Polo G's best album in my opinion. I think the run from tracks 2 to 13 produced some of his best songs from his catalogue, and track 16, Wishing For a Hero, is his most impactful song of his career. Though the messages in this album seem to be repeated a lot, this stood out. My conclusion is, this album is amazing, I would give a lot to listen to it for the first time again.
