Zola Blood - Infinite Games
72

Zola Blood's "Infinite Games" is reminiscent of The XX mixed with "King of Limbs"-era Radiohead. Although the album runs at 38 minutes long, the album can drag at times which is perhaps due to the consistent tempo between songs. Songs like "The Only Thing," "Islands," and "Miles and Miles," however, do provide more upbeat moments while still retaining the album's overall melancholic mood. I'm curious to hear Zola Blood's future albums.

Robert Ball - Need

Super slick R&B with smooth jazz sounds. No denying Ball has a good voice made for this music, but I'm just not into this.

Thunder Dreamer - Capture

Moody, atmospheric guitar rock. While not pushing any musical boundaries, Thunder Dreamer's "Capture" does provide some good songs, such as the title track, "You Know Me," and "Why Bother." There comes a point, however, when the songs begin to meld into one another. This is of particular concern in the album's second half. Overall, the album's consistent sound and tone make for an enjoyable, albeit not wholly engaging, experience.

The Heliocentrics - A World of Masks

Music for your nervous breakdown. This jazzy-as-hell and psychedelic record compels you to listen. Nothing feels forced and each track contributes album's overall dark, late night feelings.

Lil Yachty - Teenage Emotions

Lil Yachty's "Teenage Emotions" has one thing right about teenage feelings: they're frequently overblown. Lil Yachty's debut album, a bloated record at twenty-one tracks and a 69-minute runtime, starts off strong with the delicate opener "LIke a Star" but quickly verges into just plain bad with the "DN Freestyle." For an artist praised for their inclusiveness and positivity – just look at the album's colorful, diverse, and fun cover – it's hard to ... read more

Wavves - You're Welcome

Strong start with the opening four songs – "Daisy," "You're Welcome," "No Shade," and "Million Enemies." Unfortunately, the album begins to blend together after a while. Production-wise, the album takes a lot of chances and incorporates electronic elements with varying degrees of success. Some songs should have been shortened considerably or left out altogether – looking at you "Come to the Valley" and "I Love You." As a ... read more

RJ - MrLA

Distinct west coast sound. This sound, however, can lead to indistinguishable tracks. The closing track, "50," veers away from the sound with its spacey darkness. Several excellent guests litter the album. Enjoyable experience, but does not expand the west coast sound.

Perfume Genius - No Shape

Gorgeous, grandiose, and heartbreaking. Yet, at the same time, a delicate album that always feels on the verge of falling apart.

"Completely agree. I don't rate it as high as you do, but it's an odd album sonically."
On Lil Yachty - Teenage Emotions
"Oh yeah. It's false advertising. It's promoting something that's not there. I'd rather not edit the review, but you're right, it's bad. "
